Pancakes in QF lounges

I imagine a team of people whose main tasks involve working out pancake strategies for the QF network.

I wonder if they work out the pancake strategies while eating pancakes?

Not to be ungrateful towards pancakes, but sheesh, I could think of maybe a million things that might be more important to fix at QF than the availability/non-availability of pancake machines!

(For the pedants, probably not acually a million but a hell of a lot).

Shirley you can't be serious Doc! You mean to tell us there's more important issues out there than pancakes? ;)

Well come to think of it, if the pancake team listens to what people want on this thread it would be great if we could second them to the department that's in charge of releasing award seats. There's also another matter that's had a bit of lively discussion lately called 'Anytime Access'. :(

Pancakes have always been a favourite of mine whether making them or eating them. Growing up in Sydney we'd sometimes go to the 24 hour restaurant 'Pancakes on The Rocks' whose catch phrase was "we're never closed". I remember walking home from school one day when I saw the fire brigade at the park around the corner from our house. The owner of Pancakes on The Rocks was flying his light plane & experiencing difficulties, tried to do an emergency on the oval but didn't quick make it & came down in the trees. He still walked away from the wreckage.

Every time we went to Pancakes on The Rocks after that Dad would always say "that's what he did with his plane" - "yeeeeees Daaaaaad" we know.

Rushed off QF511 and from SYD T3 to T2 this morning for some pancakes before I jumped on QF2225 ... got there at about 10:15am, but the magical machine was nowhere to be seen. They started changing over from brekkie to lunch soon after, so perhaps it had already been taken away :(

Should have dropped into the T3 QP.

I was on the phone to the Customer Experience/Pancakes team when I saw the reply to my post.
We did not have plans to put pancake machines in the Business Lounges but since the response has been so positive, we are going to look into putting them there too.

I will let you all know when I have an update on this.

Cheers,
Red Roo
Excellent news! :D Perhaps pancakes don't exactly fit into the Neil Perry scene, but I hope they're not seen as being below the J lounge clientele :)

With quite a few 'serious' threads going on at the moment, I loved reading an entire thread that is just about pancakes. :)
So for all you pancake lovers you can find them in the following locations:

Qantas Clubs in:
Sydney T3 and T2
Melbourne
Adelaide
Perth
Canberra
Brisbane

Sydney and Melbourne International Business
Comings soon to Brisbane International Business

If I hear of any other pancake related info (new sauces, syrups or locations), I'll be sure to share the good news.

Cheers,
Red Roo

I don't suppose you are adding all day barista service to the lounges too?
We have such a coffee culture in Australia now, but QF only offer machine made espressos for the majority of the day :(

Red Roo,

This morning I was in the BNE QP and no pancake machine.

I went over there to get some and go back to the J lounge.

Yes, yes, yes. Real coffee that tastes like real coffee. No sugar. No milk. Just real coffee.

At the office we installed a Short Black coffee maker that uses pre packaged sachets and yes it tastes like it was just ground. Self serve and the coffee is to die for. While short blacks may not be everybodys cup of coffee, for real coffee lovers it is the only way to drink and taste coffee. We have 6 different sachets varieties available and the cost is very reasonable.

So if QF can't provide a all day barista, a short black machine with a selection of 6 or so flavours of coffee sachets would put a smile on my dial.

If it's not giving away any trade secrets ;) can you tell us if "soon" is before the 10th of September? :)

On Thursday the BNE Domestic QP didn't have it.

Still no answer from Red Roo on the location of the BNE machine yesterday,

It was definitely in the the Qantas Club about 2 weeks ago... Right down the end of the food bar - near the toaster.

Since then, I have been watching out for Pancake machines .... Found one at the Brisbane Ekka, and also saw one at the Mercure Brisbane breakfast buffet..

It is very funny how people get excited over pancakes, but they are important!

It was down that end because i did the get some and walk back to the J lounge and use real cutlery to eat them with.

Never mind status run, I think we seriously need to get a pancake run on the go like a progressive dinner which people used to do in the 'olden days'. :p

NEWSFLASH

Pancake machine sighting in the SYD T3 J Lounge this morning!

SWMBO used a QP guest pass in CBR this morning. She had great things to say about "this awesome pancake machine they had there".

I'm still yet to come across one. Had a look for it in MEL J lounge today. Couldn't see it.

Normally there are 2 machines in the Mel QP and none in the J lounge. The action is to walk into the QP lounge, get the Pancakes with your choice of additionals and then walk back into the J lounge to eat them with real knives and forks. The watch the other J lounge lizards walk up to the food bar looking for the pancakes.

Are you sure you weren't just having a 'boys look'? Sort of like when you can't find your socks but SWMBO can. :p

Nothing like stirring the possum is there? Worth doing just for the reaction even if you didn't like pancakes!

Enjoyed pancakes in the MEL (Dom) J lounge this morning - but have just witnessed the machine wheeled out the back - future destination unknown!

They'll probably have them in ALDI by Xmas for $39.95!

The Jetstar lounge in Coolangatta has one of the pancake machines, and I have seen it at least once in Sydney QP. I have also seen them in a few hotels in Australia and the US.

They are certainly fresh and quite nice with a good dollop of maple syrup, but they aren't exactly culinary masterpieces! (The kids love it too)
