Is there, or is there any plan to have paid subscription to the forum to remove the ads?

I don’t mind Google ads, but the animated banner ads drive me nuts! The reason for this is I connect to a terminal server via a WAN link while I am away and with the ads wanting to redraw the screen every ½ second it makes everything so slow.

I know they are there for revenue, so I was hoping to just cough up the revenue and have them removed.

Thoughts???

PS The first thing I do when a page loads is scroll down just enough so the animated ads are off the screen. This speeds up my viewsing a lot.

I agree entirely.
Personally, I prefer the old forum.

It's extremely annoying. Some ads are also placed such that they give the (false!) impression they would belong to a posting.

I would not be surprised if the ad overkill makes people move on to different forums.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Like all new things it is taking some time to get used to but i thinks its OK.

If I had to pay i would not be here. No offence its just not that much fun.

There is probably room for the in between option of an optional paid subscription and Admin is the only one who can really answer this.

Have you sent Admin a PM and asked the question?

All I can say on the matter is "adverts? what adverts?"

Internet advertising can be easily neutered

Not if you are as computer illiterate as a lot of people around here :!: :D

The ads are annoying but after the first week or so of the new software you get used to them and only focus on the relevant information.

While the ad's themselves do not bother me, this 'feature' I find annoying. In some posts the ad ends up between the text of the message and the signature that some people have, without anything really indicating where post stops and ad starts.

Just as well you don't have a signature oterwise I would have been really annoyed. :p

:D Yep, right in the middle of your post, no less.

I guess the ads help pay for this place so it's just something we have to accept. Like most advertising, I find that it becomes repetitive enough that I just don't notice it after a while. I have a policy to never click on an Internet ad, ever. They are wasting their money on me. :D

At the end of the day, this website has to get paid for somehow, and accepting advertising is a way of paying the bills. I really don't see them much differently to ads in newspapers, or magazines or on TV. It is just when they become a little intrusive that I may make comment on them!

Without posting full details on how to avoid google and banner adverts, might I suggest trying the deliciously ironic method of working out how to avoid them

Not sure whether Clifford would be too happy.

I would hazard a guess that AFF would be making money from users clicking on the ads.

And when was the last time you actually clicked on an ad presented by such a web site?

Does google pay per click, or per placement on a web site? It could be that it in appearing on the page there is some payment made.

Today, and I do so on a regular basis. I don't like them in the middle of posts but still I do look out for something interesting.
