Plenty. Not much choice getting back from PER unless you waste a day. Every time I've taken the red-eye it has been full in both economy and business.

Well ok, best of luck to them with this flight. I hope they do well. Mind you I guess it would be better to be on a ozJet red eye than cooped up in whY on QF or DJ.

The article also says that a FF scheme is due by the end of the month. Wonder what it will entail.

Anyone willing to provide some guesses as to what the FF scheme will entail, what partners there may be etc. etc.

Yeah, I'll play with my crystal ball and suggest the following:

I think they will follow to some extent the DJ model with X points per $ spent on airfares. Can't see there being any airline partners, but think they may tie up some more business orientated partners such as telecoms companies etc.

The points would be used towards free/discount airfares on Ozjet only.

They discussed before having Corporate type FF schemes for companies. That would probably be a % commission back at the end of a period for certain sales and not affect the individual FF members. This could be in the form of OzDollars or real cash. (probably OzDollars :) )

Don't think they will start off with tiered member levels, but in a year or so may go down that path...

I wonder if they will offer a decently priced SYD-MEL-PER flight for us Sydney-siders?
I'll answer my own question...

OzJet announce Perth fare details
by James Moses

OzJet is moving quickly with plans for its new Perth-Melbourne service, today announcing details of fare prices and the start of ticket sales.

Tickets go on sale from today, with the service due to commence as planned on March 14, using its all-business-class Boeing 737 aircraft.

OzJet's Perth to Melbourne fares will start at $499 one-way and includes free hot meals on fine china and complementary beverages.

Other fares will be available at $599 and $699, and a full flexibility fare at $799.

In other developments since the Perth-Melbourne leg of OzJet's operations was announced recently, the service will operate seven days a week, rather than the six originally planned.

Also, passengers will be able to fly between Sydney and Perth - with a stop in Melbourne - from $699.

The Sydney-Perth fares will range up to $999 for a fully-flexible ticket, and a direct service between the two capitals is due later in the year.

I took the following prices from the OzJet website:
Code:
Sydney to Perth
Monday 10 Apr 2006
Flight Depart Arrive Stops OZSaver OZBiz OZFlex
O749 18:00 22:15 1 699.00 899.01 999.01

Perth to Sydney
Friday 21 Apr 2006
Flight Depart Arrive Stops OZSaver OZBiz OZFlex
O7 2 23:40 07:25 1 700.52 900.52 1000.53

TOTAL TRIP COST: FOR 1 Adult
OZSaver $1,399.52
OZBiz $1,799.53
OZFlex $1,999.54
Comparison with QF for the same dates:
Code:
Flight Depart Arrive Stops Business
QF583 19:25 22:15 0 1,439.00

Flight Depart Arrive Stops Business
QF518 00:15 06:20 0 1,443.00

TOTAL TRIP COST: FOR 1 Adult
$2,882.00

Note that if you do SYD-PER via MEL and return on QF then the price goes up to $3,198.00. I guess you'd be mad to not take the direct flight, but both fares are still quite expensive.

Anyway, even though QF has the benefit of multiple services per day to/from PER and direct SYD-PER services, I'm guessing that these 60 J seats in each direction at these prices may well shake things up a little. :D

Shame that their flights are such anti social times
I don't mind the SYD-MEL-PER timing - it works well for me as I can travel after hours and be there ready for an early start the next morning.

However I hate the red-eye flight. QF's mid-afternoon PER-SYD on the A330 is much more civilised, but the pricing is out of this world at present. :(

I would not mind betting that QF Yield management are busily sharpening their MEL/SYD<>PER D/I fares ready to sell on their website; just like they have done for MEL<>SYD.

Indeed!

As I posted on FT:
"I wouldn't be suprised if Qantas trials D class fares to Perth in the next few months.

While I don't think they really need to for load reasons (as the J cabin is just about full on every trip) they will want to compete with OzJet.

Maybe that will mean less staff/staff friends in the front cabin...."

Hopefully they'll sharpen a little more than they have for SYD-MEL. QF are charging $409 each way which is double O7's fare while still offering an inferior product. Maybe we'll see a quality jump as well as a price drop (can only hope anyway)

Double O7s lowest fare admittedly, but not their higher fares. O7s service is pretty decent but I wouldn't say that it is better than QFs business service *plus* QF does have a much better service frequency

I like O7 ( though their luggage allowance inhibits my using them normally ... change to the same as QF offers and I'll be there ) and do hope that they do well since they are far better than QF economy

OzJets reply to my question to them about when they will fly from BNE

Dear Ross,

Thank you for your interest in OzJet.

As you are aware we are currently flying between Melbourne and Sydney.

In mid March we are commencing services between Melbourne and Perth and it is likely after this we will next commence services to Brisbane, but we have no firm dates.

We hope to add additional destinations to our network as we receive additional aircraft this year.

Please register on our website at www.ozjet.com.au to stay informed on all the latest OzJet news.

Kind regards,

The OzJet Team

I took the plunge and flew Ozjet for the first time today. 8am flight MEL - SYD. It departed about 30 mins late and was about 75% full. What was really refreshing was dealing with enthusiastic staff. I'd definitely use them on PER runs, particularly if I needed to catch a red eye.
