Working on the ANA tool trying to figure out how to get the family to Queenstown next July school holidays. No Krisflyer redemptions available on the direct services BNE-ZQN so it looks like we will have an overnight stops at one of AKL, WLG or CHC.

After my experience with AKL airport transfers I know that AKL may be a costly exercise for a day.

Do an of these cities have a particularly effective airport hotel for 8-10 hour overnites? We'd probably arrive later afternoon into the airport then have a 9 ish flight the next morning so just enough time to taxi (4 people), get dinner, sleep and back to airport.

Any thoughts?

OK, thanks.

The overnight stay at Hotel Motel Apartment Accommodation Hamilton Rotorua Auckland Airport - Ventura Inn & Suites Hotels will add about $149 to the trip both ways for 4 people. Total $300 inc breakfast. Seems to make the decision a lot easier.

And Ventura AKL has free 24-hour shuttles running (need to book the return to the airport when checking in to the hotel) so no need for a cab.

I stayed there once before and am staying agin soon. It's quite ok for the purpose you state. I was there too late to go out and eat, but they mention a pub somewhere nearby.

Try wotif .com and put in Auck or Chc airport. It will give you a guide for what you want and most have how far from the Airport. Many have shuttles to and from the airport you can book.
Would suggest Chc as this is less flying time, better views from the plane (route). Might give you a chance to see the arctic centre which is probably the 2nd best attraction in NZ after TePapa.

I have used the Copthorne Hotel Commodore, its close, has shuttle, but not sure what its like for a family.

Good luck

I ended up getting the planets to align and found suitable redemption flights via AKL. Have booked the Ventura. Thanks for the help everyone.
