Just a cautionary tale for anyone making overlapping bookings with Marriott.
I was in the middle of a 13 night stay at a St Regis in one European city when I needed to take a trip to another city unexpectedly for one night. I didn’t check out of the St Regis and left most of my luggage there, just made another booking for the other city.
Being stupid I booked the second hotel at another Marriott chain.
The points for the one night credited fine, but a month after checking out I still didn’t have points for the St Regis stay.
Chased up the customer service team, to be eventually told they won’t credit my 13 night booking because I had a separate 1 night stay during the same period.
Presumably there’s a rule somewhere that I wasn’t aware of, but lesson learned that loyalty to the same chain in this instance leads to punishment not reward.
