Order a Qantas "care pack" for $25

My pack with amenity kit () arrived this morning. Nice little pack. PJs went straight in the wash for future wear (probably tomorrow at this rate - dumping of snow due in CW NSW) - the card indicating it was a gift (from me to me) was a nice touch for those who did send them as care packs.

There is an old guy in my area who lives on the street. Interestingly, he prides himself in wearing QF pajamas while pushing his shopping trolley of belongings!

Back on topic @Ekka, if you can provide me with a mailing address I will send you J PJ's and a J amenity kit. Sorry, no tim tams, almonds or tea.

Very kind of you, Serfty, but I have all the J pyjamas and amenity kits I will need - including almonds and biscuits, and my tea tipple is rather pedestrian, I'm aftraid, as I drink only Tetley, and All Rounders at that - for many years; if I ever fly again it will be in J, and quite likely with CX, who never sprang for pyjamas, I believe, and their tea was at best moderate.

Can't remember who else has given me J pyjamas, as few airlines do these days. May have been Singapore, with their appalling J seats - unless you're very quick. Anyway they're still in their plastic bag, so they'll probably go to the local fete, unsullied by humans.

@Ekka I am assuming your post is directed at me, sure I may seem “so nonchalantly too” being a P1 and being up-graded to F at times goes hand-in hand, isn’t that what status is about. Most QF P1s I know or have met through AFF are either “C or E” level staff, are in partnership’s or are business owners and travel more than most. Also in most cases these individuals indirectly fund the QF WP or SG, so I am not sure what your issue is.

No, Matt, it was not directed at you, but as a long-term member of AFF, I remain amazed at the number of members who have such enormous privileges, compared with most of us, who struggle to maintain miserly Silver and Gold, paying through their own resources. In retirement and in oldish-to-old age, I have flown J at my own expense, often on points, never First Class, which remains a pipe dream.

No, Matt, it was not directed at you, but as a long-term member of AFF, I remain amazed at the number of members who have such enormous privileges, compared with most of us, who struggle to maintain miserly Silver and Gold, paying through their own resources. In retirement and in oldish-to-old age, I have flown J at my own expense, often on points, never First Class, which remains a pipe dream.

The potential solution is to break the shackles of QFF status, and fly first class through other programs! Both TG F SYD-Europe and Cathay F Australia to USA are around AUD2000 one one way (in F).

Status with QF matters little, as I don't have much anyway, and would have to be in J (probably with CX) because of sore back and general oldness, as much as I'd like to try F before I cark.

As a self-funded retiree traveller, at that price I might splurge in F at least once in my lifetime. If we ever can! I can still earn QFF points with CX and retain my hard earned WP status. Hopefully it will come to pass. In the meantime I will relax in my Qantas pyjamas, glass of champagne in hand, and dream. Now, where’s the seat belt......and lip balm...

I don't want to dampen an ambition but I would ask whether it is worth it. I have flown in a number of F cabins and the excitement has worn off. My last travel - in SQ F last year, Im found the seat not that comfortable (more comfortable than Y, obviously, but I have had better J seats), I can drink my fill on tasty beverages in J without needing to feel that my champagne retails at $300 a bottle, the lounges are just armchairs that are less comfortable than my own sitting room, and the food is honestly a bit hit and miss. The main USP is that the seat turns into a bed, but if you were splurging for a once-in-a-lifetime experience I'm not sure you'd want to sleep through it.
