I know there has been increasing speculation about when Optus is joining the program and today we can reveal that Optus is on board!

So let’s cut to the chase…

From today, if you’re an Optus personal customer, you can earn 2 points for every dollar spent on most services.

And if you’re a business owner you can also earn 2 points for every dollar spent on most SMB services until 31 December. This will revert to 1 point per dollar spent as of January 1, 2012.

The services you can earn points on include mobile, broadband, fixed line phone, mobile broadband and bundles – for both personal and SMB accounts. You can also earn points on Optus personal Foxtel TV packages. Basically any personal services with an Optus bill are eligible to earn points.

To register to earn points you need to complete the three steps to sign up to Optus Rewards at optus.com.au/points. For those who aren’t Frequent Flyers, they will be able to join the program without paying the usual joining fee through Optus Rewards. But for members, just link your existing membership, add your Optus accounts and you’re away.

Optus is a great addition to the program and unites two strong Australian brands – keep a look out for both the Frequent Flyer and Optus marketing campaigns which also launch today.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

2 points / dollar versus 3 points / dollar.

Or you could just ignore this, and stick with a decent network...

At least this Optus earning includes broadband, etc.

I have an Optus account but now live in another country,
even though I often visit Australia. Can I still join Optus Rewards?

Yes, you can still join Optus Rewards, however points will only be earned when you pay your Optus account or recharge your Optus prepaid service. Please allow up to 30 days after payment has been processed for your points to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
Nice to know that you can earn more points (than through Everyday Rewards) through recharging prepaid.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Only announcing the partnership today and 2 pts per dollar has already expired? That's a shame for those who missed out ;)

I just registered .... was a painless process .... unlike when EDR was launched ....... now lets see how long the points take ... my bill cycle is the 7th of each month ..... it does say up to 30 days....

I might now reconsider my switch to the big T once my contract is up in a few months ......

Signing up now... My iPhone is with Optus.

It's only 198 points per month, but it's better than being hit in the face by a fish!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

good tie up, although no good for me as I will be transferring back to the Big T (coverage mainly).

Is Optus going to replace Telstra for the hotspots in the Lounges?? ;)

I guess it's all about what works for you. Where I live there are too many black holes in the Optus coverage. (Though it is improving)

In the QF lounges there are many black holes in the Telstra (Wifi) coverage :!:

Would love to see this improved, if possible. Not fussed about the provider at the back end.

This looks like a good partnership for QFF and Optus and many of their respective customers, so well done and thanks for giving up the heads up Red Roo. Not sure it's for us though, as it's only likely to result in an extra 4000ish points a year based on our telco spend, which I value at $60-80; a premium I'm happy to sacrifice for sticking with our current preferred telcos for broadband and mobile.

Nothing new really I've been earning QFF points for the last 2+ years on my postpaid mobile @ 3pts per $1 spent

If you bought prepaid vouchers at Woolworths on an Amex card that earnt 3 points / $ (e.g. Platinum Edge at Supermarkets), you'd get:

3 Membership Rewards points
1 QANTAS Frequent Flyer point (via Everyday Rewards)

4 points / $, if you're on QANTAS direct.

Thanks Red Roo I have signed up. I don't get great coverage at home with Optus and will probably change to another carrier at the end of my contract, the points won't be enough to stop me changing, but I'll take what is offered in the interim. :)

Unfortunately when I go to DPO it is only Telstra.
Mobiles-well we are still on our original contracts with Testra despite many calls from the Indian call centres saying those plans are no longer available(even illegal once). To change would increase charges dramatically.

Optus was set up by a US company - Cable and Wireless and then sold to a Singapore government owned entity. I think it is possibly stretching things to say "Australian brands". Indeed to compare Qantas with Optus as an "Australian brand" makes me feel uneasy. Perhaps it would be better to say brands well known in Australia or in the Australian market.

I must admit I choked when I saw Optus referred to as an Australian brand. ;) Its more a 100% Singapore Inc subsidiary, that offers second rate mobile coverage. Still for those that use Optus, and can get points it can be a nice earner.:)

Australian brand does not mean Australian owned. Many people regard Vegemite, Holden etc as Australian brands.

Optus still more reliable then Virgin.
I have foxtel (through foxtel) I wonder if I can change that to get my foxtel through Optus ??

Hi Gusty, This offer has not expired, it should have read '2012' not '2011' have amended as follows

"And if you’re a business owner you can also earn 2 points for every dollar spent on most SMB services until 31 December. This will revert to 1 point per dollar spent as of January 1, 2012."

Thanks for pointing out. Cheers, Red Roo

Hi Tuppaware, I've checked with Optus. You'll only earn points on your Foxtel if you signed up with Optus and are billed by them. Cheers, Red Roo
