Re: Opportunity to leverage this offer for UA points (18,667 SPG = 31,250 United Mile

So 90,000 Starpoints is the minimum.

Also check what category the hotel in Pattaya is as well to know which package you need to redeem.
Category 3.

If I transfer Marriott points to MileagePlus now I am not sure when I'll book flights and the hotel stay could well at a totally different time. How is this handled?

Just do the maths. If a package is 360k then divide it by 3 to determine how many starpoints points you need. Flights and hotels will need to be used. Miles expire after 18 months of inactivity and hotel rewards you have 1 year to use and a quick call to Marriot should extend it for another year.

Both operate separately from each other so you can book either one or the other or both.

Thanks. I know nothing about Marriott. Looks like 90,000 Starpoints is the minimum.

Hotel stay in June and flights scattered all over the place before 18 months.

I am going to do the same with recent 2 x 100K MR Gateway from Amex , Problem is we need 90,000 SPG to transfer to Marriot but we have 2 account with 50,000 each after transfer from AMEX, not sure if SPG will allow family transfer over .

Purchase the 30k from SPG. I believe at the moment they have a 35-50% discount and yes SPG does allow family transfers.

SPG do allow family transfer I believe (well I certainly transferred to my spouse a few weeks ago).

I got offer of 30% and 25% off both account on my partner account and we short 38,000 Points to make 90,000 Balance ,

It look like we have to buy 30,000 at 30% discount and 8000 at 25% discount . is this good value .

Hi Billt

At this stage it still represents value because come next year there might not be this opportunity if Marriot decides to rework their rewards program.

Secondly with the bonus your essentially getting 2.5 return trips to SEA in business class. Hope that helps your decision making.

Also there's the cheaper package at 250k.

Finally managed to complete the transfers.

180,000 Amex MR -> 90,000 Star points -> 270,000 Marriott points -> 132,000 MileagePlus miles and 7 nights in Category 1-5 Marriott certificate.

I don't think it would have been possible to get better value out of the Amex MR points.

Miles already in MileagePlus account. Do I assume ~8 weeks for the 20,000 bonus MileagePlus miles from United?

I done the same thing yesterday , already received the hotel cert and 132,000 Miles , look like we need to wait for the 20,000 bonus . This actually a very good value for me as our family of 3 need to to travel to SEA and United offer best value for 30,000 per ticket .

Thinking about buying more SPG points to get another package .

Yeap did the same. Miles credited after 4 days. Now to try and convert my business flight with Thai Airways to Singapore. In order to do that would I need to route to Singapore or how would I go about it.

Hi John, wondering how long the process took from conversion of Amex MR through to getting the MileagePlus points credited?

Interested to do this too, but anxious on timeframe and availability of United award redemption that's currently available on a flight I want. :)

Thanks

Each of the transfers was very quick. From memory no more than a day from Amex -> SPG and from SPG to Marriott was almost instantaneous and from Marriott to Mileage Plus in <24 hours.

No bonus yet from Mileage Plus.

Awesome! Thanks for the data point.

Just out of curiosity, did your name match exactly between all the accounts?

Mine has middle name in some and not in others alas over the years when registering.

The Extra 20,000 Bonus is ended 30 November i think but it still worth considering with currently normal transfer rate . Or you could wait for the next bonus round to come along .

90,000 SPG to 270,000 Marriot to 132,000 United Miles + 7 Nights Hotel .

Base on my personal experience , without the bonus i would wait until i can use those point right away , we got a trip coming up in Jan 17 and unable to use those United miles to find 3 seats Thai AIrways so those miles stay unused in our account along with 7 nights certificate ( our coming up trip in Bangkok is only 3 days so don't wanna use those )
