Open wine bottles will be reused on Qantas domestic business class

I can understand them throwing them out at the end of the day, but really, the end of the sector.. imagine the waste on the golden triangle/monorail etc?

Anyone who has found themselves at the bar on an EK380 at top of descent would know how much is wasted by not having a similar policy. It was heartbreaking to watch the Champers and fine wine go down the drain, we managed to rescue the Scotch by finishing the bottle - duty done!

Logic at last. I stopped asking for wine on CBR-SYD in J because i knew that 80% of the bottle would be wasted. A good, sensible improvement.

Good decision. I just hope they won't start mixing wines from different bottles like it was reported seen at the J lounge.

To me this seems like a good idea, no reason why a bottle opened within the last hour or two can't be reused on another flight. It's not like there is some magic sensor in the bottle which makes it go off just because the plane has landed....

When on PE Heathrow to Singapore the crew said they had to dispose of all bottles whether opened or not. Sadly we weren't able to accept the offer of a few bottles of wine as we were going straight through to Australia. They were such a fun crew - two crew members from France.

Fair point. But QF domestic J is not serving champagne, fine wine and scotch.

We're talking about half a bottle of sub-$10 wine here. QF probably gets it even cheaper without WET taxes and what not.

It just seems messy and a risk to quality control to save a pittence. A la olives at AA.

Maybe they should buy 375ml bottles and stock different sizes based on expected demand.

BA serves chamagne in little bottles in euro-club.

I have never had sub $10 wine in QF J, Yering, Vasse Felix etc closer to $20 is the norm.

QF also buy/serve the sparkling in Piccolo size.

Makes perfect sense to me. Any sensible business would do the same and then just ditch what is left at the end of the day. Having said that, there is nor reason why it can't be used the following day. We open wine at home and sometimes it isn't finished until 3-4 days later.

This should also benefit ports like HBA where all of the catering is loaded on the inbound flight.

Aah, add to the left over wine to some left over fruit and left over fruit juice, I can see sangria being added to the offering. And then no-one will know if the wine has been mixed from different bottles. :)

Even more efficiency :idea::D;)

Now that's an idea that is both tasty and cost-saving :)

Or donate the half-drunk bottles to the passengers to take home :cool:
