I don't believe exit row seats can be allocated through OLCI. Mainly because of the health and fitness regulations regarding who can/can't sit in those seats.

I'm not sure when they're allocated for QF but I would assume on the day of the flight at the counter.

And generally won't be allocated until last, e.g. if it's not a full flight, they won't be allocated - that being said though, someone always asks for them so they end up having someone in them.

My last flight to ZNE had only 50 or so people on the plane. I had an entire row to myself, with a colleague I worked with having the entire row in front of me (also an exit) to herself.

Seating on the 737-800

On the TT service, is the extra legroom in Row 4 worth the narrower seat or is Row 6 as good?

Actually it's not always the case, I have been assigned one on OLCI, as have several others on here found in the past.

Having said that, you're right that you can't reassign yourself into the seats, its just that QF at time assign someone.

Personally though I prefer row 4 on the 800 and row 4 or 5 on the 400, but you tend to need to be SG or WP to get them.

Haven't been in one of the new 73H's yet, but row 4 is definitely better for me than row 6 on the 734's. There's is an additional 10-15cm of pitch. You do have less lateral width but that's not an issue for me.

I'll be able to advise on the 73H in three weeks.

*FWIW, on AirNZ's 320's, in the Space+ area the non bulkhead seats are better as you have "gate to gate" IFE and plenty of pitch. (The front row IFE has to be stowed for takeoff and landing)

I've been put in the exit rows once by the kiosk check in at the airport. Instead of giving you a boarding pass it prints out a card with your details and tells you to go the Service Desk. They take the card off you, ask you the questions and then hand you the boarding pass. The process might have changed though, it's been more than two years since I've flown on QF.

I'll second that. I was in Space+ on an A320 for ADL-AKL a few weeks back and it was great. Good IFE, room to stretch my long legs and friendly service.

Knowing you, I understand why she wouldn't want to sit in the same row as you...:rolleyes:;):D:mrgreen:

Exit rows on a 737 will always be allocated to someone - at least one person per row must be seated there

I was pre allocated an exit row with OLCI on a 734 a few weeks ago. It just meant that I had to get the boarding pass at the airport. They then gave me exit rows for my other flights also. :D

I'm in that crowd as well, four sectors within the next 24hrs, and because one of them is an exit row seat (which I'm not giving up in a hurry) I have to pick up the BP's at check in.

Beats having to print the passes at the office or home, because half the time the barcodes on self-printed ones (even on a high end laser or toner unit with the quality maxed out) don't work for me.

Been pre-allocated exits on 2 x 738s and one of those times I was able to print a BP at OLCI time (I don't believe this was supposed to happen). The other time I printed a 'confirmation advice' which I exchanged for a BP at the airport.

Ditto this experience travelling to and from Karratha two weeks ago.

I checked out of the exit row as (in the case of a 2hr flight) I'd rather have the boarding pass in my hand as we occasionally get there at the very last minute.

On a QF 737 it's mandatory to have at least 2 pax per 3 seats in each exit row on either side. For example pax seated in 13ACDF & 14ACDF.

For that reason they don't charge any extra for exit rows on 737 aircraft.

Cheers

ozbeachbabe,

It may be mandatory but either some do not know that or they simply do not apply the rule.
