Oneworld separate ticket interline changes

BA will still tag actual J/F pax with priority tags. It's those in Y/W with status that are not getting the tags. The tags make no difference anyway, the baggage handlers scan the bag tag itself to determine which bin to put the bag into.

This is not my experience on many occasions. UK Domestic flying Y on Monday afternoon and received priority tags as OWE. Bag in the first container off at LHR.

...
BA says the ticket has not been re-issued and due to it being a separate ticket even if same PNR and new rules they can't touch it. She says QF should be dealing with this and should never have checked me through to GLA to begin with.
Finally she takes pity on me, does an override and re-issues the ticket on the 0955 flight. "One off, will not do it again etc." One of the bags made it to GLA the other will arrive later today. ...
The agent was wrong:
BA said:
Only those customers that have separate tickets issued in the same PNR/booking will be accepted for through check-in.

So the airlines would have us believe! It makes a difference when the bins may be (un)loaded out of sequence and the handlers then have few clues which to put on the baggage belt first. The tags solve that problem.

New explanation of why QF had to make this change (from the F checkin at SYD).

The problem was that QF does not charge for baggage but other airlines do, so there was always a problem checking which were free and which carried a charge when transferring.

What are QF telling their staff? One million ways to justify an unpopular change?

that's stupid because the majority of oneworld airlines don't charge for baggage. The only ones that do that I can think of are BA on their super low fares, AA, and AB. Any anyway, at least AA (and maybe the others) have rules that the international allowance applies when connecting, so if the one ticket system can do that, and the separate ticket system can do that (which it has been doing), this is not really a valid excuse.

Mrs B and I just checked in at SFO for our flight to LAX connecting to QF12 on a separate ticket. Without much prompting the check in staff has through checked our bags all the way to MEL and also issued our boarding passes. Bonus. Now we can stay airside. Not sure if this is the norm again for AA but certainly appreciated it.

Good to see Red Roo lurking in this thread - perhaps they'll be good enough to post the official QF Policy document here ;)

I'm flying LHR-PVG-SYD in a few weeks and thought of tacking in a weekend somewhere else in Europe before I head home.

Under previous rules I'd just fly into LHR with all the BPs in hand with bags checked right through to Sydney. Under these new rules I'd have to clear inbound immigration in LHR, collect bags, and check-in for my new flight.

That's all too hard so I'll just stay in the UK for the weekend. Loss of revenue to BA - about £500.

Totally understandable but not something the bean-counters at BA would necessarily notice. is this the sort of genuine feedback which could be posted on BA's FB or Twitter? I was going to suggest emailing but it would probably get lost in the plethora of complaints about the latest J catering "enhancements".

Regards,

BD

did you have a backup plan in case you were denied? How long was your connection?

The backup plan was to do what I thought we would have to do. Collect bags. Re checkin and pass through security again. We had a 3 hour connection which initially I thought would be shorter as our flight out of SFO was delayed but then QF12 was delayed by a similar margin.

Walked past the massive line at security on the T4-TBIT connector and gave a big thank you to the check in agent at SFO.

There's a recently opened security at the arrivals level of TBIT - enter from the lower roadway and turn left. It bring you out near the Qantas First lounge.

If it's not a public facing document, I'd say you have little hope of that happening.

Without reading every comment, a slightly different take occured at our first flight. It was a single 1 way ticket Melb / Syd, to then start our 280k OneWorld trip.

We rang QFF more then once, they said upto the airport check-in as to whether our luggage is to be tagged to the final destination (Singapore Stop over, or Colombo being first actual destination).

Long story short: We could either have it tagged to Colombo (we would have no luggage for 12 hrs while in overnight hotel!), or Singapore which we wanted.

Lady at QF Business check in (Melb domestic) said that if it was a paid ticket (s) it couldn't occur... But since we used points, it is allowed.

She was also impressed with the entire booking she saw :)

Well then they should publish a "full" public facing document ðŸ

Is it possible to "like" this more than once? One of my biggest gripes about this is that QF have not made a public announcement and did not contact existing ticket holders to advise them of the changes. I wonder how many ended up trapped?

Just a footnote to this. AA were happy to check my bags through from Houston to Sydney on QF74, based on the fact that I'd booked before the changes came into effect. If only QF were so flexible.

50 pages of comments for this "little used benefit" (according to oneworld) and no response from QF!
