Which dates were you searching for april? I only managed to book flights from coughet through hk to melb two days ago for 13th April so cx has not released the full month yet

I'm looking for 24 April and CX should have released by now but Qantas is showing no CX availability for that flight for all of April. Seems to cut off late March.

I was told they are release 11.5 months out on the phone so I am not sure if 24 is released yet. As I only managed to get flights a couple of days ago for 13th I would say the date you want might not be released yet.

Quick question if anyone knows the answer - when I add a new segment and the agent provides me with a quote on the amount of points it will cost to redeem the flight, do I need to verify their calculation to ensure it maxes out at 318,000 points? Or do I just assume they dont understand the OWA product and the system will automatically calculate the correct figure when they ticket the flight?

I had a convo with an agent this morning and the points quote she gave me to add another segment would take my total points past 318,000. I didnt mention OWA product to her and I'm definately still within all of the OWA rules.

However, airlines and their partners are under no obligation to release award seats at certain dates. Some flights may have no seats released, or perhaps released much nearer departure. There is no binding rule for this.

DId the agent quote you 0 points when you were adding the last segment?

When talking with the agent, like you, I said "Final leg of our OWA flights." The agent agreed (implicityly through actions not aby any specific phrase) and then, once the booking was in place, gave me a $ figure to pay.

The points will automatically cap as long as you keep within the rules of the OWA booking.

In regards to award availability, Airlines do not have to release award seats if they think they can fill them up with cash fares during a particular period. Like school holidays, Easter, end of year break.

Yes correct she provided me with a manual calculation of the points. I didn't argue with the calculation as I assumed when it get's ticketed the system will calculate the correct points and cap at 318,000 points.

In any case I didnt proceed with adding the leg but will be calling back tomorrow to finalise.

For departure date conditions, the rules state:
"14.6 Classic Flight Rewards - ticketing
14.6.1 Classic Flight Rewards will be valid for one year from the original ticketed departure date"
Given the above, I'm wondering why they told you your ticket is only valid for 12 months from issue date?

My ticket has been totally re-issued dated today, but you have a valid point as, even though I discussed my reasoning with the agent saying that I was intending to be away for nine months from the new departure date and she didn't advise me that I needed to return by 12 months from the original June departure date, neither did she confirm that I did in fact, have 12 months from the new departure date.
Looks like another call to Qantas for clarification coming up....

To further update my posts on my Qantas Oneworld Classic Flight itinerary previously, I am very happy to report that after sitting on line for over 2 hours (no call back options offered this time strangely) I have had clarification from the agent who has stated categorically that I have 12 months from the new date of departure i.e. late February 2021, in which to complete my itinerary. I appraised him of my full intention to rebook every flight after the first leg by January 2021 when flights have become available and he confirmed that I would have until February 2022 to complete the itinerary.

So I hope this is of assistance to any AFF'ers out there who are wondering what to do with their carefully researched and painstakingly arranged Classic Flight itineraries booked before the price hike. My husband and I are luckily retired and very flexible with our dates, perhaps unlike many other less fortunate souls out there.

That would be an exceptional outcome but, as you've posted, it's against the T&Cs. I would make sure you have that interaction very well documented. When I phoned back later and got the right answer (as per 14.6.1), the agent confirmed I would have 12 months from the date of the original first flight's departure to complete the ticket.

If you are within the rules it should max out at 318K if they quote higher points definately query them. I believe that they manually recalculate the difference berween the points you have already paid and the new points amount they give you. If they quote more points you must mention it is a OWA and should max out at 318K. Ask them which rule you have broken to make it go over. I had one occasion where I wanted to change a flight from one airline to another and they quoted some hugh amount of points. I couldn't convince them it shouldn't change. I had to HUACA.

There is plenty of CX married segment availability via HKG to SYD (eg ex LHR, ex NRT, ex HND) up to 23 Apr for most days but for whatever reason, still nothing straight out of HK on the very same flights.

Have a look on the QF multi city booking search and you can see the CX flights as long as you start somewhere else and travel via HKG.

This is not just impacting Award flights - it's paid flights as well that aren't showing up from HKG.

CX do not release award seats between AU and HKG (or vice versa).

They stopped doing this some time ago.

Others can probably explain the rationale better than me, but it's related to the married sector control.

If you just want HKG-SYD, you'll need to look at QF for direct flights, or JL, MH or CX and travel via another port.

Whilst I was planning my OWA there was a lot of availability for HKG-SYD with CX.

In fact you can see these award flights if you search for March 2021.

With really light loads at present I’m not surprised they’ve released seats to reduce the points liability.

Hi All,
just had my OWA booking cancelled without any notice. I found out today seeing my points being returned back to my account. Confirmed all flights are gone from my Qantas booking page too - no email notice or anything.
Has anyone experienced this? What are my chances of getting them to reinstate the booking with all flights because i can't see any award availability for the December now.
Im furious.. how can they cancel just like that. AND so surprised they can process the return of points like straight away.. i thought it's currently taking up to 5 weeks..
