Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

whats the best way to book flights with partner flights when they originate from a country with currency issues (such as Qatar, Srilanka etc)? The general phone line takes ages and they always get currency wrong.
I’ve dealt with this a few times when booking partner flights originating from places like Sri Lanka or Qatar, and it can definitely be frustrating especially with currency issues and slow call centers.
What’s worked best for me is avoiding the local version of the airline site whenever possible. I usually switch to something like the Australian, UK, or US version of the same airline website (sometimes just using incognito or a VPN helps). Pricing tends to be more stable, and you don’t run into as many currency conversion problems.
Another thing I always try is paying in a stronger currency like USD or AUD instead of the local one. It seems to reduce errors during checkout and avoids those weird exchange rate mismatches.
If it’s a partner flight, I also recommend checking if you can book it through the main operating airline or a larger partner rather than the smaller/local one. Their systems are usually more reliable.
I’ve also had mixed experiences with calling like you said, long waits and sometimes they still get the currency wrong. In a few cases, I had better luck contacting a local airline office directly or even via email/WhatsApp, which was surprisingly faster.
One important thing: always make sure you actually receive a ticket number, not just a booking reference. I’ve had a case where payment went through but the ticket wasn’t properly issued.
Overall, my approach now is:
search broadly → switch country site → pay in USD/AUD → only call if everything else fails
Hope that helps , it’s a bit of trial and error, but once you find the right combo it gets much easier

Hi. I'm new to this site but a long time Qantas FF (was Platium now Gold). I'm trying to book a One World Classic round the world trip (Business Class) but really struggling with available seats. We are very flexible regards itinerary and timing (although would prefer to avoid teh Middle East).but I can't find ANYTHING in business class from Australia/Asia to Europe (best is Finnair Premium Economy) or even Australia to South Africa or from the US back to Australia.

Any tips?
We only managed it by using seats.aero (not affiliated) which was fantastic to see various different options.
We even managed 2 trips to Europe on the one ticket, with repositioning to Singapore, using SQ. We used QF, MH and AY only.

That was just over a year ago now though so the availability may just not be there anymore.

Good luck!

That’s a solid tip, seats.aero sounds like a game changer. Repositioning to Singapore is smart too, way more options open up from there.

Availability does seem tighter now, but definitely worth a try. Cheers for sharing!

You need to jump on the seats as soon as they are released.
