Thu 24 March - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Cairns
Fingers crossed for you. I'm 30 March out of SYD :(

I am not sure what your post means, but I welcome you to AFF regardless. :)
You must be Finnish with a name like that?

I think Eija is referring to the industrial action at the airport :(

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi all. It's been awhile since I posted about my 2 x 280 k awards that are currently underway (MEL-HKG-JFK (1), JFK-MAD-BCN (2), FRA-HKG-AKL (3), AKL-SYD-ADL (4 - CURRENT POSITION), ADL-DRW-ADL-MEL (5).

Just wanted to share that I rang up QF today to modify our DRW-ADL return date and also to cancel the ADL-MEL leg, as we'll be finishing in Adelaide (there is some discussion on this far back in the thread - basically, when I booked these flights, QF advised we needed to physically travel back to our starting departure city of MEL, even though we only want to get to ADL).

I was able to easily change the DRW-ADL return date, but absurdly, they cannot cancel the 2 final ADL-MEL J flights. Even when I explained that we would not be taking them, the operator just shrugged and said that it could not be done. Crazy... will need to ring ahead and let them know we'll be no shows, I guess.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Hi All in the business of planning and I have one quick question if I may. Assuming a flight arrives at 9.25pm and the next flight leaves at 9.25 pm 24 hours later, will this count as a stop over or not ?

One World's terms indicate that a stop over is "when a passenger arrives at an intermediate point and is not scheduled to depart within 24 hours of arrival". I can't work out whether this means equal to or less than 24 hours or less than 24 hours. Search and Google are driving me nuts looking for a definitive answer.

It's a stopover - can't go over 23hr 59min

It's because dropping ADL-MEL means a ticket reissue is required which cannot be done on awards after departure. Just leave it alone and don't show up and don't check in. If you don't check in you'll be disregarded anyway.

Hi all, does anyone know if a OW affiliate counts as a separate airline from its parent for the purposes of meeting the "two airlines other than QF" rule? EG. if an itinerary only included QF, CX and Dragonair, would it be valid?

Affiliate airlines are not automatically OW airlines - each airline must be separately included as a OW airline. Parent airlines may have both OW and non OW affiliates. So the answer to your question is that affiliates do qualify as separate airlines under the "two airlines other than QF rule".

I would have thought it all depended on the actual flight code?

Apologies, this has most likely been answered previously (Shakespeare, monkeys, etc.), if I want to book 2 x J RTW 280k rewards using different FF accounts, will the consultant waive the phone booking fee? I've found the flights I want online, but without doing the family transfers (i.e. 3 x 100,000 point transfers on one day), I don't have enough points in one account.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

A side one to this, I am also confused whether you need to do a family transfer to have the exact points in your own account or qantas can pool at the time of booking. I have booked 3xJ RTW rewards twice for the family. First time, the operator just combined our accounts (would not have been able to family transfer as 300,000+ in my wife's account), second time operator said oh you don't have enough points you need to transfer 58,000pts to redeem the 3 Js. Which I could. Clarification would be highly appreciated. Currently have capability for 2x J RTW split 50:50 each account and need to accumulate for my daughter's ticket.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Personally I think if you can it would be worthwhile having all the points in one account. Just makes it easier and the booking will be all on the one PNR.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

In both instances the RTW was covered under the one PNR.

They are meant to charge a fee, whether they waive it for you will just depend. I doubt there's a hard and fast rule.

But, If you've found the flights online, any reason you won't just book the flight online and then add flights over the phone?

Also, why not just do the family transfer?

By the sounds of it, they are able to work things out on their end at the time of booking. But you are relying on the QFF Centre.

Personally, I'd be transferring points early and regularly so that one account holds the points whereever possible. Just my view though.

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

I booked a RWT last year using 140,000 points, plus taxes. It is easiest to phone Qantas and inquire then if you follow there instructions you may be able to book on line or if you get a nice staff member they may waiver the booking fee. We went Townsville, Shanghai, flew from Beijing to Prague the Copenhagen to Rome, Rome Hong Kong then Hong Kong Townsville. Taxes were about $800

re: "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

A quick question. My husband and I are considering leaving our daughter at home for the final 3 night ADL-DRW-ADL segment of our OW booking. Our daughter is tied to my seat booking as a lap infant. Is anyone able to clarify the impact of this - i.e. would a lap infant no show void the remaining segments for all 3 pax under the booking number (no good for us), or just for the infant (this is fine)? I have consulted the terms and conditions, but it's not clear to me. Many thanks.

Having booked a few of these for self and friends, my understanding is that you need sufficient points in either one account (560k) or enough for each award in separate accounts (2 accounts with at least 280k each).

Put another way:
one account with 560k+ points = no problem
two accounts with 280k+ points = no problem
one account with 500,000 points and another account with 200,000 points = no go; points transfer required.

I can't point (pardon pun) to anything in the T & C's on this; just talking from past experience.

Thanks JV, this seems fair. I guess my options then, are to transfer 250k (using 3/4 family transfers for the year) from account 1 to account 2, so all 560k points are in account 2, and book online. The other option is transfer 30k points from account 2 to account 1, and book over the phone, incurring the award booking fee.
