I'm thinking about getting either an L or D Circle Asia SW Pacific fare for the next skiing trip to Hokkaido. Can I book this fare through the AA ATW desk or do I have to book it through one of the Asia/Pacific OW carriers? If I have to use QF, CX or JL, which one has the least painful fuel fines? The likely itinerary is SYD-NRT-CTS-HKG-SIN-SYD as this is just under the 13000 miles.

From the Circle Asia fare rules posted at OneWorld.com
First/Business/Economy class Circle trip travel via BA/CX/EG/JC/JL/JO/ KA /NU/QF
So cannot be issued by AA.

I thought that may be the case. I know that JL and CX have fairly hefty fuel fines but are they worse than QF?

The OW site also says under booking a circle asia trip to contact a member airline and the list includes AA.

Hmm, later in the fare rules it does state:
15. SALES RESTRICTIONS
Tickets must be issued on the stock of AA/BA/CX/EG/IB/JL//KA/LA/LP/MA/QF/RJ. When travel
originates in a country for which a specific local currency fares is published and the ticket is sold in
another country, the fare will be that published for the country of origin converted to the currency of
the country of sale at the bank selling rate. The resultant fare must not be lower than from the
country of sale.
So it looks like AA are able to issue the ticket.

That's good news. I'll ring the AA ATW desk to organise it and let everyone know the outcome. It may be a few weeks before I do it, I'm off to Seth Efrica next week.

So... how did you go?

Am thinking of booking one (as it's almost the same as the J return price anyway....) but need to work out a way to get SIN-CGK !

AA will probably want one over water segment on their flight number for them to ticket it I reckon.

That's OK, it looks like I'll be doing a *A Circle Asia fare anyway, SQ works very well for where I need to be, and when etc.

If only I could work out their fare calculator.... load all the cities in, but then can't work out what to do

I'd be interested to know if AA will book this fare for you without a sector on their flight number as I've used this fare twice now and will again for my Asia business trips and have booked through QF both times. I'm all for saving on fuel fines if possible so any experience anyone has had re this would be valuable info.

Cheers

Ahemmmm...please excuse my ignorance, can I ticket a Circle Asia fare with aa, crediting to QF, where it is unlikely to have any aa sectors?

If I can get around the MCT, then the only aa sector is SYD-CNS out of SYD-CNS-NRT-PVG-HKG-BKK-SYD

I think you fill find due to Cabotage that sector (SYD-CNS) can not be booked on AA. only something like LAX-SYD-CNS could be booked all AA.

Thanks guys. Not sure there will be any significant savings, although any will help given the Australian price rise in the fare in July....

PLease do not confuse Booked on AA and ticketed on AA.

Booked mean AA flight number. Ticketed means AA eticket. AA can sell ticktes her for QF flight numbers no problems.

Yep you'd need an AA flight on the transpacific, and the GDS should come up with a warning should one attempt to make such a booking:

Code:
1AA/QF 7292 J7 D7 I0 SYDCNS 120P 325P 737 L 0 DCA /E
            Y7 B7 H7 K7 M7 L7 W7 V7 S7 N7 Q7
[I][B]INTL ONLINE CONEX/STPVR TFC ONLY[/B][/I]
You'd be able to book an itinerary with zero AA content by approaching AA directly.

Ok.. I understand.. I think?!?!?!

This is confusing!

Sooooo... I can book a D/LAS17 through the AA RTW office, and AA will then ticket it, even if I have no flights on AA metal (or AA flight numbers?) and have my QFF number added to the booking so I get QFF points and status credits.. and by doing this I can save because AA's fuel fines may be less than QFs?

Cheers

to book through?

If AA charge any at all, they certainly will be less.

I purchased 2xLONE4's earlier this year through AA and NO fuel fines were levied.
