I have found that if you are booking a CX segment (which you can't online - or on and off), QF will waive the 2.5k booking fee. Perhaps only as I'm QGold though

I have heard people with lower status getting the fee waived. There is no hard and fast rule and I guess it is up to the customer service agent to waive the booking fee.

When planning my OW award in 2007 I was still a Gold and I was having difficulty booking the OW award online and was forced to go through the customer service centre and some agents wanted to charge the booking fee. I just kept calling back until I got the right agent who waived the booking fee.

In my opinion if a valid itinerary cannot be booked online or certain destinations do not appear on the drop down box or certain carriers flights are excluded then they should waive the booking fee for anyone regardless of status....

Does this mean that if I book 1 x J segement, no more than 5 stopovers, 16 segments and less than 35000 points the trip should max out at 280,000 points?

Is there a Y+ deal?

Just plug some bookings into the Award Booking engine (assuming that you have the points) and you will see the points drop to it.

With Y+ not all fights and airlins have Y+

I don't quite understand the question but I will try to answer it. If you book all WHY flights and have just 1 x J segment then the whole itinerary will be calculated on the highest class of travel. So yes in this case it will be 280,000 QFF points. Why not just book all business class flights as it will still max out at 280,000 QFF points.

Keep in mind that a Oneworld award also requires that you have 2 Oneworld carriers as well as Qantas in your itinerary.

Yes and it is 210,000 QFF points.

Answer as per above. A premium economy Oneworld award is 210,000 FF points, 50% premium on WHY Oneworld award, and not sure if it is actually mentioned anywhere on the QF website but the booking engine certainly calculates it out this way.

Do note where QF premium economy or BA World traveller Plus is not offered you will need to book WHY flights.

Just happened to be looking up points to find how i should get out of JNB in July. No saver J awards on SQ, i could fly whY ... but 50% discount at the moment JNB-SIN so even a 90k J award is 45k and thats available which is not all that bad a deal.

I just played with the QF booking engine:

MEL/LAX/LAS

LAS/ORD

ORD/LHR/MHT

MHT/HKG

HKG/MEL

280K points - I can't see how this can be done for 140K points...

What am I doing wrong or what have I misunderstood?

I think you made a mistake with MHT. Why would you travel ORD/LHR/MHT? I think you meant MAN in the UK and not MHT in the USA.

The routiing MEL-LAX-LAS-ORD-LHR-MAN-LHR-HKG-MEL is indeed 140,000 QFF points.

Not it doesn't as a First Class Oneworld Award should max out 420,000 QFF points but what would happen in this situation is the QFF points required for all individual sectors would be added together and it would be a Qantas/Partner Award rather than a Oneworld Award.

If I input the above routing with LAS-ORD as a First Class flight then the total points required is 204,000 QFF points so I am not sure how you got 280,000 QFF points.

Should be the case by my reading of the rules. the highest class for any leg will make the whole trip that same cost. But JohnK says they are all added together for a QF/Partner award so that is better and fairer but i am not sure how you get a different result than us both.

No. You can have multiple sectors in mixed class that do not quite make a Oneworld award so the booking engine calculates each of these sectors separately. eg SYD-SIN in WHY, stopover and then SIN-LHR in J, stopover and then LHR-JFK in WHY, stopover and then JFK-SYD in premium economy would each be calculated separately and if the points required was more than 280,000 QFF points (highest class business in this routing) it would become a Oneworld award for 280,000 QFF points otherwise if the points required for each of the sectors was less than 280,000 QFF points then it would remain a Qantas/Partner award with the number of QFF points required at what is calculated.

Without seeing what you are doing I have no idea. I have just done your itinerary again (with October dates) and it calculates out to 204,000 QFF points.

There is usually very limited availability in WHY on this route. I was looking at March when I did the original calculation and there was only F available on most days.

You can add FRA as long as you make one of the LHR transits a stopover or you take the direct ORD-MAN flight on AA.

First MHT and now OHR! Are you referring to Chicago or London and I hope you are not actually referring to OHR which is Wyk Oef Foehr in Denmark. Or are you?

I don't know where you want to go and where you want to stopover but for 140,000 QFF points you can do something like

MEL-LHR-LAS
LAS-ORD-MAN
MAN-LHR
LHR-FRA
FRA-LHR-HKG
HKG-MEL

with a stopover in LAS, MAN, LHR, FRA and HKG. Of course you can swap it around and go to FRA first and then MAN and from ORD you can go via LHR to MAN if you wish. So many possibilities.

I am assuming that stop overs would be allowed in LAX & LHR

You can have upto 5 stopovers of more than 24 hours and any one city can have 2 transits and a stopover.
