Hi All,

A friend of mine is getting married in Dubai early next year I have quite a good stash of QFF points at the moment and having been looking at my options to get there. You seem to have to use the multi city search to get shown anything to DXB in the award booking engine and I can see some options going SYD-HK-DXB using QF and CX. My question is is there any other one world airlines that fly to DXB other than CX that can be easily routed from SYD using QFF points? I may well still end up booking a direct flight on Emirates or Etihad but want to investigate my options.
Thanks

CX does seem to be the best bet, and will have a decent number of flights from HKG. But there’s nothing direct in OneWorld, or a partner airline to Qantas, as far as I can see.

If you’re a QFF Gold or QC member, at least you’ll get lounge access all the way.

Maybe not as a QC member (I don't think). Another (inconvenient) option would appear to be QF to LHR, BA to DXB, which case I think QC membership would cut it for lounge access.

Oh true, I remembered there was a lounge, but forgot that it doesn’t count on CX. Woops.

So as a QFF Gold + you’ll get lounge access the whole way, and as a QC member you’d get lounge access if flying Qantas between SYD and HKG.

good spot

I looked at other routes, such as RJ to AMM but they only fly as far as BKK.

If redeeming flights, I doubt SYD-BKK-AMM-DXB would be much fun! :D

Thanks for the replies.

I am a QP member but unfortunately only a NB one although I am currently contemplating the value of a random flight to MEL to get the 40 SC I am short for PS before my anniversary at the end of Jan.

If its a reward flight I would be hoping for J class if Y is the only option there is a fair chance I will just pay to fly direct on one of the Arab airlines. So lounge access is not really a consideration (and besides I am sure I can amuse myself in the shops in HK:D)

Recently Qantas devalued what Silver membership once was. So there are reasons for and against attaining it, but at only 40SC’s short, I’d give it a go as it will allow advance seat selection and that can be useful if you know how to play the game ;)

True.

The points calculator is giving me a 250,000 point figure via HKG to DXB in J (return), which seems absurd. If you’re considering doing this route, consider paying for CX from HKG as fares are generally cheaper and you never know what deal you might find. :) Although, I just looked for random dates and there’s nothing good about the prices. :(

At one stage there was a Jet Airways codeshare DXB-BOM and vv but that would mean going SYD-SIN-BOM-DXB.

So via HKG with CX or QF/CX is the easiest.

Another alternative if having redemption issues might be to look at RJ via AMM (ie. SYD-BKK-AMM-DXB). Again, not the easiest.

The EY operated AUH flight would be ok (~ 1hr drive AUH-DXB - there shuttle busses) but QF are stopping the codeshare so doubt it'll work for your timing (2011).

With the new changes not sure if PS is worth it when I have QP although advanced seat selection would be nice.

I played with a few dummy bookings and the codeshare no longer seems to be an option even for paid flights. Probably wouldn't stop me flying EY if I end up paying for the flight though.

That being said, if you go this option, or even EK, you should be able to credit to Velocity, so just make sure you credit the miles somewhere ;)

If Kingfisher become a full OW member by your flight date then that would give you some options from BOM/DEL-DXB.

Personally, I find it hard to choose anything other than EK for DXB - if only for the use of their wonderful Terminal 3.

Kingfisher was announced as joining 1W in February 2010 and they generally take 18 months to bring all systems on pare, so 02/10 + 18 = 08/11… most likely a little late.
