"Olympics safety demonstration video removal" bingo

So, I'm wondering when Qantas will swap out the current "As we head towards the Olympics" safety demonstration? It beats me how Qantas can leave it going with it clearly saying in the opening words "As we head towards the Olympics". Maybe they are keeping it for Rio?

Anyway, I'm picking 18th August for it to swap..

They could do what the NZ boffins did and cut out the latest intro pre-Olympic demonstration, then stick that on the front of the rest of the Olympic safety demonstration, then re-cut the ending from the old safety demonstration (starting from "Remember: the crew are here for your safety...")

When I last flew NZ, their safety video was a mish mash of many of their previous safety demonstrations. One second I was being told by Richard Simmons to buckle up, the next moment a semi-naked FA was telling me how to put on an oxygen mask.

The Olympic special will be removed 1st September or thereabouts depending on the date the aircraft receives it's monthly IFE update (So must...fly! - you win!!)

Not answering the original question but I simply can't resist adding that it's one of the most idiotic safety videos ever. Though I must admit those body-painted idiots on NZ are hard to beat. Since when have safety videos become a comedy show or marketing gimmic? It's a friggin safety video: Show it, watch it, start the champagne!

To be honest, if governments actually gave a damn about safety, they would actually record the safety videos themselves and mandate that carriers run those safety videos. (Suffice to say with different seat equipment this does make it slightly more complicated, though I don't know why it should be such a bother - certainly the bureaucrats would lap this up as an excuse to exact more money!)

Whilst you are probably dead on with it continuing through the Paralympics I'm very surprised that, considering the production costs of a video like this, that Qantas and their production company would make the beginner's error of 'dating' the video.
Yesterday as I flew BNE-TSV there were two homeward bound Olympians on the plane with me (Hockeyroo Nathan Burgers & Boomer Peter Crawford) and they had a chuckle when the video came on with "As we head towards the Olympics..."

No- I've missed all these but doesn't sound like that's a bad thing necessarily. Found the JAL video which looks (and sounds!) like a video game pretty fun to watch.

Hey- slightly off topic, is it only me who LOVES the safety briefing cards on AA with those photos from the 80ies? Must admit I stole one of those, just to have it once they finally get rid of them, so hilarious!

I noticed this morning that QF have (sort of) changed their safety video again, although the only real change was at the start where Cathy Freeman and someone else say that Qantas has taken the athletes to London.

I can definitely see now why they didn't get Cathy to speak in Coles's Olympics ads!

Why would they make safety videos? It's a requirement to run through a safety demonstration covering certain things, and I believe you need to be visually shown how to fit a life jacket and where the exits are. But at no point in time is an airline forced to show an actual video. Certain aircraft do not have video screens, just as QFLink aircraft, as such the safety briefing is given over the PA, with FA's showing how to fit life jackets and pointing out exits.

I thought there were some amazing performances on both teams. Just because the general public of the second fattest nation on earth didn't get enough gold to feel good about kicking back on their sofas doesn't make the team a joke.

A classic example of everyone getting complacent and just assuming Australia would win all the medals because they're the best and while that didn't happen, they did pretty well and should be proud of what they did achieve, not thrown under the bus…

I was well inspired by many performances at the Olympics. The sailing! The girls team that only formed in the last couple of years and were very close to winning gold for a start. There were even inspiring performances in the swimming made even more inspiring by the revelations around team morale.
