A lot of PEI reminds me of Tasmania-a lot of great seafood,a major grower of Potatoes (25% of Canada's potatoes grown here),the alternates and these markets with quaint craft and a lot of woodwork along with organic veggies and lots of unpasteurised honey.
Now these might look a little like potatoes-
1567384138027.jpeg.
But that is potato soap.
Then there is this.
1567384193970.jpeg.1567384226780.jpeg.
Potato donuts. We presumed they were made with potato flour like the Armish breads in Philly. But no the donut is mashed potato and maple syrup with normal decoration. We decided we didn't want to taste.
There was some good looking produce including one fellow with a great array of heirloom tomatoes. But most really had very little to sell.Wouldn't last an hour at our local farmer's market. This one was typical.
1567384494718.jpeg.
Then some street art.
1567384584468.jpeg.1567384602169.jpeg.

Most of the corners on the main street had little gardens.
1567384655434.jpeg.
Seemed a little late to plant this one. These gardens are all sponsored by local businesses.
Exhausted we sat down outside Starbucks and had our caramel frappucinos.

A lighthouse near Victoria,PEI with the Confederation bridge in the background.

That last is across a lagoon to the Trans Canada h'way-one of many.
1567387982170.jpeg.1567388004358.jpeg.

And a gull virtually stationary flying into the wind.

This was part of our revised itinerary after the North Cape drive. We had originally intended today to do the East Coast drive and on Monday to do the Anne of Green Gables coast. We are then relocating to the Atlantic side of the East coast and that was to be our rest days.
But today we decided to just do a little bit of the Central coast drive so we could stop along the way. There are small provincial day parks around the island and it gives you access to the coast. The next lot of pictures are from the Argyle Shores park which says it has an unsupervised beach. You would never see me swimming there.

A lovely little park with play equipment, picnic tables and facilities.

Sunday as they say is a day of rest.Well the morning we spent looking at the shops and the markets they have every Sunday in summer. Not like at home as they start at 1100.
But first brekkie at the Delta. Not the best by a long way but better than some.

Now one of the hot items was a cinnamon roll in an egg bake.WTF.
View attachment 185337.

We set off to walk to the top of the rise in Queen street where the market is.Whilst mrsdrron went into the Anne of Green Gables shop and the As Cool as a Moose shop I looked out for some interesting buildings.

That last one needs a little TLC.
Then the markets.
View attachment 185340.

Are you sure you didn't just have a little taste of the Cinnamon roll in eggs :p

Now VPS I should wash your mouth out.I certainly would have to have done so if I had partaken of that dish.

Our next stop was the Fort Amherst Historical Park. The first view was a little unusual.
1567457935598.jpeg.1567457960749.jpeg.
Good views across to Charlottetown.

1567458159193.jpeg.1567458266260.jpeg.
But beware of coyotes.
1567458305376.jpeg.

Now some history Of the fort.

So the English took over from the French in 1758.After that they deported between 5-10000 Arcadians back to France-the lower figure is the English count, the higher the French. Many died on the journey. So now the fort,or what is left of the earthworks.

Back to the hotel and an early dinner as we could only get a 1730 reservation. It was back to the Water Street Corner Store.Again a little rustic.
1567460019365.jpeg.1567460038495.jpeg.

We both had a 2lb lobster dinner which comes with a starter of mussels or seafood chowder as well as a side-we had the mussels and fries.

They were beautiful.Probably the best lobster we have ever had.The meat was easily removed from the head and legs.We thought it good value at just under $C70 each.
Felt happy so some flower pics for mrsdrron.

Sounds like great value to me 😋

So to Monday-Labor day here as it is in the USA.So today quite a few businesses have "Closed for the Season: signs up.But we were off to Anne's place.Did our research and the busiest times for the Green Gables Heritage Park are from 1100-1600 but the park is open from )900 to 1700.So we prety much timed our arrival there perfectly arriving at 0855.No one else there. At 0900 when the doors opened we were still the only one's there so able to go through the house by ourselves then I was able to walk the Balsam Hollow trail by myself. No one else around.
1567466983288.jpeg.1567467021501.jpeg.

1567467149468.jpeg.1567467171295.jpeg.
That is at 0859.

So we leave the house before any one else has arrived.
1567468776883.jpeg.1567468799016.jpeg.

1567468822468.jpeg.
So now I take off on my walk. But I notice something.
1567468873509.jpeg.1567468892058.jpeg.
A path from the back of the house to the first green of the Green Gables Golf course. So life couldn't have been so tough.
1567468990821.jpeg.1567469021593.jpeg.
Then I spotted something else.
1567469117614.jpeg.1567469142939.jpeg.
I had only seen the first hole and thought Wow-What a slice through 30 metres of trees.

But a little further on I found this.
1567469489914.jpeg.1567469506731.jpeg.
The 11th hole going the other way so a hook through ~ 10metres of less dense trees was the culprit.
Then found a terrestial orchid with seed pods. Not sure what it is but not the commonest which here are the slipper orchids.
1567470248211.jpeg.1567470278844.jpeg.

1567470302567.jpeg.1567470321923.jpeg.

1567470386959.jpeg.1567470416914.jpeg.

1567470437182.jpeg.1567470453725.jpeg.
Certainly a beautiful stroll.

Being alone meant the birds hadn't been scared off including a pair of woodpeckers.
1567470663595.jpeg.1567470682945.jpeg.

1567470700498.jpeg.1567470717911.jpeg.
Also saw a ruffled grouse but it was too quick.
Back to mrsdrron who went for her own walk.
1567470900681.jpeg.1567470918087.jpeg.

1567470942207.jpeg.1567470961475.jpeg.

1567471012467.jpeg.1567471029665.jpeg.

A little more about the author.
1567472241076.jpeg.1567472263653.jpeg.
And the book.
1567472374089.jpeg.1567472393019.jpeg.

Why did we come here.Well mrsdrron owes her name to Green Gables. She came along well after her Sister and Brother. They were given naming rights. Her sister was reading Anne of Green Gables at the time.
