Just noticed that QF2300 from Brisbane to Mackay is $79, with 2 stops (Gladstone and Rocky), but if I wish to book a seat on 2300 the same day from Rocky to Mackay the fare is $205, is there anyway of booking the Brisbane to Mackay flight but not actually boarding till the aircraft lands in Rockhampton?, (in a nutshell a 3 sector flight is $79.00 but to fly the last sector only is $205)

Any thoughts

will be auto canceled as soon as you no show in Brisbane. not possible

My understanding is that you can call Qantas before travel commences and advise them you won't be flying the first sector. The conditions of carriage indicate if you call them subsequent sectors won't auto cancel.

that would apply if you are on a multi sector itinerary with DIFFERENT flight numbers . what the op is trying to do is not allowed

Interesting thought medhead, but unfortunately the flight departs BN prior to the arrival of any flights from Rocky, otherwise is in an overnight stay in Brisbane, this scenario is quite common up here, for example, Mackay to Gladstone (via Rocky) can be $259 (QF 2301 18th Jan. but on the SAME flight no (2301) and going to Rocky is $205 and going to Brisbane(via Rocky and Gladstone) is $189, so basically 1 sector is $205, two are $259 and three sectors is only costing $189

But if QF was to allow this - which I doubt - they would recalculate the fare, and the OP would have to pay the difference!!

Fair enough. I did not see the nuance that it was all one flight number.

If the flight numbers are different - I believe there is the scope to reorder the flights but only domestically and only with advance notice
