[Offer Closed]: Citibank Gold NO ANNUAL FEE FOR LIFE

"Redemption must be in blocks of 10,000 Reward points."

That's holding me back, personally. It'd be a secondary card only (for when AMEX isn't accepted), and as such I'd rarely put big purchases on it.

Then again, if the points don't expire it may be worth it.

Cheers,
- Febs.

If you can't earn 10,000 points in 6/12 months, then you are not really going to get much value from the credit card points regardless of the redemption rate.

Granted I'm not a huge spender on my credit cards, but I put about $30-35k per annum through my two AMEXs, both of which have generous and easy-to-transfer points systems.

As I said, the VISA would be purely a backup card, for when AMEX isn't accepted. I've rarely come across that situation in my purchases, and hence, building up $10k would be a slow process.

That's why u want one with no annual fee ever ...... No point to earn 6-10K points a year and pay high annual fee. I don't spend much either (15K per annum) but I always believe that those points should cost me nothing.

well it is good for me...

I have 30K of school fees where Amex is not accepted.

Then add in various utility bills, small reatailers etc...and that will be at least another 10 k.

So compared to my current free westpac VISA (free due to hose loan) with an earn rate of 0.5 I will be up at least 20,000 points per year at no extra cost.

I do havea QANTAS Amex too...use that withits 1.25 earn rate. This was free for he first year....so may swap toa Maximiser in 10 months...though hopefully can grab another free deal (or with joining points which effectively givea free year...)

Points cap..fine print...where is it??

Can someone tell me where the cap is in the Terms and Conditions (or elswhere)??

Is it writing...or is just an internal rule? Is it perhaps not on the net but just in what they mail new cardholders?

I had a look through their website and cannot see it.

My years likely VISA spend is 40 to 50 k (with the rest on AMEX...).

I have seen ina post that 60K was the yearly limit...but that it is not always enforced.

So where is this limit on the site...?

I am sure this is of interest to all us ""new" Gold Card Members..

Also is it a yearly or monthly limit?

I pay two sets of school fees 4 time a year on Visa...so if there was a monthly limit (ie as with ANZ Visa) this could restrict me.

If there is, I would intend to have my wife take out a second FREE card...but if not I would rather avoid the extra complexity.. (ie more hassle in paying, chances to forget paying, credit record etc..)

Any help greatly appreciated.

I applied for the Citibank Silver card and received it last week, do you reakon I would be able to apply for the Gold card to replace the silver? Does anyone know whether they just replace the existing card account, or will I need to apply for gold and cancel the silver?

This looks like a very good deal, even if you pay for the annual supplementary card it still works our cheaper.

Edited: Opps cancel this post... had some of my question answered by the other thread http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/other-credit-card-rewards/citi-bank-gold-credit-card-7870.html

I asked someone at the Citibank Cards Centre what the foreign currency conversion fees on the Gold MasterCard and Visa Gold cards were and she said:

MasterCard = 3.4%
Visa = 3.3%

which, to me, seems quite steep for both. I guess the Visa wins by a very slim margin, though.

It is in the Rewards terms and conditions, which as far as I can tell are only accessible when you're logged in to Citibank internet banking. I can put a copy up on the web this evening (I think they're too big to post here). This particular condition is as follows:

3.6 Citibank may at its absolute discretion choose to limit the maximum number of Reward points that may be awarded to each Account in any period of 12 months beginning from the day Your Account’s annual fee (even if waived) is chargeable, but will not limit such Reward points to less than:
(i) Silver Account: 40,000 Reward points;
(ii) Gold Account: 60,000 Reward points;
(iii) Platinum Account: 120,000 Reward points.

Many thanks StevePR (only having just joined I cannot log in yet...so that explains why I could not find it).

No mention of a monthly cap....and 60,000 points suits me....with a bit of a margin. So I will not worry about getting my wife one as well.

Most of her day to day spend can go on her QANTAS AMEX...our non-AMEX spend is mainly on school fees and bills we pay on-line or by phone and so hence we can share the one card for that.....just by quoting the number & expiry date....so the occassional small need she may have for a VISA can go on her free Westpac 0.5 earn rate VISA (at 10,000 point rate transferance it would take many many years (maybe 10 to 20!!) for her to crank it up to 10,000.....and they will probably have added some extra charge by then!!!)

Can people let us know when they get approved or rejected? I have called them this afternoon (Tuesday) having applied online on Sunday, and the best they can tell me is "someone will call you". Two phone operators have said the same thing. They will not elaborate any further. I have to admit that it is a little unnerving, given Citibank's history of fairly restrictive credit, even though I don't have any debt at all and a good income.

Fingers crossed.

For people that have got this card, how long did you have to wait?

Well for me..

Emailed application Sunday night...and receiveda reply in probably only seconds...(just before midnight our time)

Fax sent to my company on Monday to check my details...manging Director gave it to me at 4pm....and I faxed it as I was leaving at about 6pm.

About 7:30pm I received a phone call on my mobile to check details.

Checked website later that night and it says that I am proviosoanlly approved.

All within 24hours. So far so good.

Next step as I understand it is that I will get the card in the post and will have to front up somewhere for the 100 point check.

So for me the service has been quick...and quicker than my recent Amex joining.

Wow - that is quick. Seems that mine will be longer, as my employer is a large public service organisation - so much slower to provide information.

Great that they are working so quickly when they have the information!

That is really really high....

I realise this is slightly OT so my apologies.

But Citibank are up to sneaky tricks. So yes a printout of the offer will be very handy. Have a look at www.citibank.com.au/plus.

As you can see they will waive the $5 fee if you have $500 salary deposited and a Visa debit card as well.

BUT.... the fine print for the "Linked Savings Account of 5.85%" states "Only available in NSW, ACT, SA & NT."

What?? I am in VIC and this product has been advertised quite a bit... but its only available in NSW, ACT, SA & NT.

Hmm... I think the fine print has an asterisk, and the asterisk belongs to St.George Power Plus. Have a look again. ;)

Wrong fine print. The 5.85%* refers to this

* Interest rate is effective 09/08/06 and subject to change at any time.

Thanks for clarifying oz_mark. It was confusing because there were two * but now I get it.

Furthermore did you notice the comparison table? It's out of date and also by the way ANZ do offer an Online Saver Account on a "request basis" offering 5.90% you just need to ask.

Although the annual fee is simply NOT displayed for Citibank Clear Visa: Citibank | Citibank Clear

Hi guys,
I'm also waiting for approval. Checked the citi website to check on progress and just get the 'you are conditionally approved' message.

Aside from a credit report and verification or employment & salary, what else needs doing? I suppose it will take between ANZ's 60 seconds and Amex's ten working days...?

Anyone working for a large org or govt agency who can report on the approval timeframe?
