There is a little gotcha in the terms of the promotion:

Citibank Credit Cardholders are not eligible to apply for this introductory offer

Edison made a copy of the web site at the beginning, in the PDF. Download and have a look.

The current customers not eligable for this offer wasn't there 2 weeks ago!

I knew there was a reason I didn't remember reading it before :)

Not surprised they did this - but I think it's unfair that they did. New customers get all the benefits and loyal customers get shafted.

I think all these dramas have proven a strategy we (the consumers) need to take on Citibank:

take advantage of Citibank's products on the run, because they make their policies on the run.

They move their goal posts on the run, and if you see an opportunity, you need to kick the goal immediately. You hesitate for 1/2 a second, and the goal had already been moved :D

Lucky I applied before this was added to the T&C, and my application status is now "
Congratulations! You have been conditionally approved pending verification of your application information. We will contact you shortly."

The application declinded for existing customer posts in the last page really scared me.

I would be so happy if I can can my Citibank silver and move to this free gold!

This is so completely the truth. I don't hold a huge amount of faith that the "no annual fee for life" thing will actually last for my life. But whilst it lasts, I'll take advantage.

Received a telemarketing call on my mobile today from someone "calling from the USA" (more like Phillipines, no doubt about it), asking if I was interested in investing in oil blah blah blah...

Has anyone else received this type of call since signing up? I usually NEVER receive telemarketing calls (silent number at home has meant 2 in the past 15 years - no joke), and very rarely receive them on my mobile.

The fact that it came from the Phillipines, and so soon after signing up with Citibank leads me to think they've given out my details.

Oviously I have no proof, but I wouldn't put it past them given their shady activities in the past.

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: Would've played with him if I had the time, but I just said "Not interested and you can remove me from your list thankyou." He hung up.

Sounds dodgy. I would report it to Citibank. Often call centre staff secretly record customer information and sell it outside. I am sure Citibank can see who accessed your details and if they get further complaints could investigate.

I know Citibank and other financial companies are working very hard to prevent this happening, restricting system access down to the field level, banning papers where possible, personal mobile phones/PDAs, disabling USB/floppy drives, preventing access to internet/webmail, cctv, etc. It is becoming a big problem.

Didn't realise it was such a big problem.

I might make a complaint, but who would I report it to? The same Phillipines call centre? :D:D:D

Nah, just kidding, I'm sure I'll be able to find an Australian number.

Cheers,

Gee they changed the conditions already???????? That was fast!

That is why I saved it in PDF format and store it here in the forum at the first place with date stamp on it ..... So u know exactly what was offered originally. Too dangerous to try to reference the website's webpage because they can change it anytime, whereas this PDF shows exactly what was offered originally.

I am guessing that too many existing Citibank customers took advantage of this offer, so instead of paying $69 per year now they don't have to pay anything with the Citi Gold so CB actually lost money on those existing customers. They should have put that clause at the first place.

My application to this offer was rejected because:
1. I am an existing silver card holder
2. I got my silver card only 1 month ago. (they have a nine month policy before upgrading you to any new thing, card or limit)

However, I pretended to be unhappy and got to talk with a relationship officer. And she added a large amount of reward points to my account directly (well worth more than 1 year annual fee)...;)

Citibank is shifty and here's the proof.

I applied for a Citbank Gold Mastercard free for life online through Artog to take advantage of the $20 cash reward when you start using it.

24 hours later I decided to also apply for a Citbank Platinum Visa no annual fee for the first year also online through Artog in order to take full advantage of Citibank's promotions.

48 hours later I received a telephone call at work informing me that all the details provided on my application have been verified and congratulations on being approved for a Citibank credit card.

To my surprise, I received an email confirming that I have been approved for a Citibank Platinum- first year free, no mention of the Citbank Gold Mastercard despite applying for it first, so decided to give them a call.

The Customer Service Operator said that the Gold Mastercard application had been cancelled. Why?? I never requested Citibank to cancel my application.

Citibank decided that despite applying for two cards, I actually didn't want the two cards. So they decided that it would be in my(their) best interest to approve Platinum free first year and cancel Gold free for life.

So I requested they cancel the Platinum and transfer the approval to the Gold.

Now approved Gold for life.:p :p :p

Cheers

I have an Earth AMEX card and have just received a Citibank Gold VISA card.
The Earth AMEX Card has a special of double point till the end of November.
If I move the balance on the Earth AMEX card to the Citibank Gold VISA card then will I still earn the Double points on the Earth AMEX card and also earn points on the transferred money to the Citibank Gold VISA card? Is this a win/win situation or is there a catch?

Thanks,
Geoff..

I don't know specifically about Citibank, but most CC's don't pay award points on balance transfers.

Hi

I just had another letter from Citibank replying to my request for reassement of my application for the gold card.

"Unfortunately, our previous decision still applies and we are unable to establish an account at this time"

A bit more background - a couple of years back I applied for a ready credit facility and had that rejected, but Citibank sent a silver card instead (what I thoiught was unsolicited, however I didn't read the fine print). I rang at that time that I don't want the card and will not be submitting a 100 point ID check. It appears that they still have on their records that the silver card is still current!

My concern is what the above is doing to my credit rating. Anyone comment?

Request a report from Baycorp and have a look for yourself. You can request a report for free by completing the form from their web site and posting or faxing it to them. Last time I looked at the process there was no way to request the free report through an on-line submission - had to be posted or faxed.

AAAHHH.

With my experience of only Citibank Savings products, I already have a bad feeling of Citibank.

But, I decided this was a good offer, and to apply.

And of course it doesn't go straight forward like a reliable bank.

After filling in and submitting the application, I get "Sorry, we are unable to process your request. Please call CitiPhone Banking on 13 24 84."

So, I call them up, "Sorry sir, our system is being upgraded so credit card applications don't work. Do it again tomorrow".

I ask him, so are you sure it hasn't saved or something? He replied No.

I then check my email and there appears to be a default Application for a Credit Card Receipt Email: "Thank you for your application. Please note we are still processing your application and will contact you shortly."

Not a good start!

G'day everyone - this was brought up in other threads but it was thought that it warranted a new thread of its own.

Citibank seems to be making a special offer on its Gold card: NO ANNUAL FEE for the life that your account remains open - given it's normally $119 per year, this is pretty huge.

Citibank Gold Card

Apart from that it's just like any other Citibank Gold Visa/Mastercard - seems to have all the bells and whistles, like Purchase Security and Overseas Travel Insurance and 1:1 QFF points transfer. The only difference (apart from the lack of annual fee ever) is that points have to be transferred in blocks of 10,000 instead of 5,000 but this is minor issues, really.

I can't see anything about points capping on this card either.

If you're looking for a 1:1 card, this is definitely a card to consider. I have just applied for one today - after the Ezybanking Mastercard went under and the ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa seems far too expensive for a rather restrictive points capping scheme, this seems like the best deal around.

Anyone had any experience with this deal?
I received my Gold fee free mastercard yesterday. Thanks very much for the info on this site or I would never have known about it. I already had a Silver citibank mastercard for a couple of years with a good credit history, but being retired (they don't like retirees had to push and push to get the Silver then only gave $2500 limit to start) I had to get the accountant that does my tax to talk to them then they only gave a $5000 limit. The silver one is now $4000 and they didn't cancel that, but I will before the annual fee is due in Januaray. I will ask to combine the limits, don't know how I will go. Doesn't worry me too much as I put it into credit when I want to spend more (on a trip mainly) and I still get the points. Thanks again for telling us about this deal.
