Of course it has to be led by a man...

But you can't assume that anyone is a man or anyone is a woman anymore due to gender fluidity. How do we know that Al Baker identifies as a man, for example? It would be sexist and bigoted to make such an assumption!

Simple - we can tell he identifies as a man because he is a sexist/misogynist cough. They are invariably men ......

Funny how the many blokes stuffing up don’t wear, ‘Golden Trousers’. How do you know that the AMP woman CEO was promoted only on gender? Maybe she was just the best person for the job. Yes, the odd woman can stuff up, just as well as any man. I guess Miranda Devine holds sway with some people when she says that the experiment of promoting women has failed. What a load of cough.

There is a downside to just promoting on basis of gender.

Some call it the "Golden Skirt" theory - re AMP

....

AJ the great socially progressive chiming in to rescue Baker is the other interesting bit.

AJ probably thought it was heading off course, who wants to be the head of an airline sitting next a guy about to make a mockery of the airline sector.

My dream: That one day boys will become anything they want to be - male politicians, gentleman scientists, boy bosses, gentleman surgeons or even a male IATA chairwoman.
I'd love to be a house husband. Golf 3-4 days/week, 2-3 hours housework/day and cooking dinner. Yep, that's what I would love to do.

IMAGINE what men could achieve if they didn't spend so much time on the cleaning, laundry, meal prep, tidying, childcare and caring.

“Crucify”, as long as we not exaggerating.

If he was from Australia, crucifixion would be the best he could hope for. Did he not get the memo vis-a-vie voicing an opinion in this country?

What is exaggerated are the gasps from a clearly uninformed crowd when they hear a gaffe response to a loaded question from a Middle-eastern male who's involved in an organisation that is primarily concerned with the safety and efficiency of the airline industry.

Don't be so negative, LadyC. 2-3 hours isn't a long time.

So Happy Dude .... what do YOU think of his opinion that "it has to be a man" to handle such a difficult job? And don't worry - there is no chance of me crucifying you, but every chance that you will do so yourself.

Is that your idea of a justification? Wow!

That's sexist. Is sexism okay as long as men are on the receiving end?

Lookup "misogynist". And no - sexism is not OK, regardless of the target. But like rape, the victims are over-represented by women. Why do you think that is?

Why is it that so many threads in AFF increasingly read like they should be in OMNI or at best playground?

Please note that the Mods are watching this thread, lest it go the same way as The Totally Off-Topic thread.

Just sayin' ;)

Late entry into the discussion. But why would the head of an airline want to put off-side half his potential market for passengers by making a statement like that? I can think of a lot of neutral answers I would have given the media to avoid that issue. I only have a little business, but I wouldn't tolerate any member of my team talking to the public like that. This isn't about gender, it's about hard core business, and he stuffed up.

Unfortunately for Baker, he did not utter those words domestically in the ME where they are perfectly acceptable in the hard core businesses there.

The Leopard is unable to change his spots...

AJs comments were drowned out by the journalists so I am unable to comment specifically. But found it interesting that the even chimed in. Was he trying to make light of an uncomfortable situation?
