Hi there. The company travel agency has purchased a ticket for me for a business trip to the UK on qantas. The ticket is an O class & I would like to use points to upgrade, alas this ticket is a cheapy. Company travel agency can upgrade me to a Y class ticket for approx. $800 & a $180 transaction fee. My question is is there a way can upgrade through QF rather than the travel agency to at leat save the agencies 'transaction' fee? Thanks in advance. D.D

Hi dingodog,

There is another issue you also have to deal with here. There is no guarantee you will get the points upgrade to Y+ or J. Do you have status with QF?

You could find yourself paying $800 to upgrade the ticket and not getting your points upgrade. If I was in your position I'd be going for a good seat in Y, and if necessary paying for an exit row seat.

Cheers

TH

Thanks T. Was thinking the same thing, bit of a gamble to spend the dough & still be in economy. I don't recal how many credits I have but I'm an ex Patinum now deligated to Gold.!

just curious, how jammed up are those QF29 flights ex MEL in late October? Also, where is the best point of contact to ask nicely to get a good Y seat, at check-in or at the lounge? Thanks again. DD

As a Gold you should be able to select your seats now through manage my booking on the QF website. Then start rechecking a T-80...

Mille, Can you tell me what a T80 is. Thanks again

T-80 is 80 hours before the flight departs. Log onto your booking then and the seating opens up. As a Gold i was able to secure front row of Y each itme i flew to SIN.

Point 1. The issuing agent is the only person permitted to alter of amend your ticket. Going to Qantas will only result in you being referred back to your agent. This is not a Qantas policy it is law.
Point 2. O to Y is a misnomer you only have to upgrade your fare to S class on Qantas flights internationally to be eliligble to register for an upgrade to Premium Economy or Business class. Registration for upgrade is possible from 90 out from the flight your seeking to upgrade, subject to you being booked in an eligible class of seat and the ticket has been issued.
Point 3. When refering to Y class this actually means Full Economy (Fully refundable - fully Flexible) an upgrade from O - Y would be substanially more than $800 + penalty, and penalties on most Qantas fares ex Australia are $60.00 or $100.00 -with an $80 service fee.
