Unfortunately no similar promo for Australia...

Celebrating 50 years across the Tasman

Why not join in the celebration of Qantas flying between New Zealand and Australia for 50 years with a little treat for yourself, or for someone special? Or perhaps reward someone you know has worked incredibly hard this year? Until 28 October 2011, we are waiving the joining fee when you purchase an Individual Qantas Club membership* - that's a saving of $250.

Offer available only until 11:59pm (NZDT) 28 October 2011.

The prices are VERY keen compared to Australia:

4 year $1645.00

Disappointing.

Next time they offer the no joining fee promotion in Australia I'll be signing up...

C'mon Red Roo, give us Aussies the same deal as the New Zealanders have!!!!

Depends on how you look at it...
Coming from NZ, I looked at it, but there are a range of credit cards in NZ which offer no joining fee and $145 a year off Koru club membership... which means if it's a credit card you'd get regardless, you can get Koru club (and therefore DJ access also) for 350NZD a year...

Having lounge access in Launceston would be useful for me, so I have seriously looked at it, but living in NZ I'd only get access when flying to Australia...

(Just to clarify, I'm not disagreeing with you, from a numbers P.O.V it looks way cheaper, but just highlighting how our market differs for those who don't know).
