Just a very quick one:

MEL-AKL-LAX/SFO round trip in Business for AUD 4000~ (inc taxes). Not sure about booking class.

Travel dates DEC and JAN 11. I also think that flights are available from other cities as well.

Had a quick look and could find availability pretty easily.

Wow that's good. First time that I can recall J fares being that cheap on a non-US carrier..!
Wonder if any of the other airlines are going to respond ... might need to find an excuse to take a holiday in January :D

Didn't V Australia have some really cheap fares when they first started, in J?

Dont DL usually have ~ $4500 fares SYD-LAX?

Still, great pricing from NZ, am sure they'll get plenty of takers.

NB, If you wanted to use points to book this fare:

~260k SPG if you convert into Airpoints.
315k SPG via spgflights.
400,000 Amex MR if you convert at 1000:1 AU Air NZ.
~1,200,000 PC via Priority Club Flights Anywhere.

and lots of availability.

Is it possible to buy that number of points for less than the cost of the fare?

PC = 30USD/5,000pts. -> 7,200 USD.
SPG = 3.5c/pt (USD) -> 9,100 USD.

So no, unless you can get points cheaper than the above rates.

Interesting, been playing and I can't get J on AKL-MEL. The 772 flight is showing as a much more expensive option.

So you get the long stuff in J but the last leg home in Y. Unless this is a space + seat but I have no idea how that all works.

Unless AKL/MEL is on a 767, 772 or 744 then there will no longer be business class. Also, Space+ will no longer be available on the 767 or 320's.

the flights that connect with the LAX flights usually are on 772 into MEL

I've flown them all, most recently a 744.

yeah, i just meant that there will be business class product on the flights to MEL connecting to and from the long haul flights. You are right they use a variety of widebodies, the 772 seems to be the current offering.
