Looking at some reward flights to Amsterdam have found from Melbourne in First class on EK metal using QFF Points. Taxes and charges are AUD $639.00 which seems high.

Same destination But now flying AKL-MEL-AMS in First again all on EK metal and QFF points with the Taxes and charges NZD $419.00 (AUD $382.00).

We really need some one to take a look at why Australian QFF redemptions have to pay so much more in taxes and charges than our friends across the ditch especially when the flight fly's through Melbourne.

Will be interesting to see what happens to these taxes and charges when EK stop flying across the ditch.

I would suggest it's markets.

Qantas charge ex USA PAX far more in "Carrier Surcharges" than they do for ex Oz.

I suspect this lower charge is related to those that AirNZ charge (or don't charge).

Which would be strange given AA charges are reported as being so much lower than that of QFF redemption charges even when flying QF metal with AA points.. Rather odd and suggests its not a competition thing as alluded to above with NZ.

Qantas charge YQ/YR what the market will cop.

Note that a QFF points redemption LAX-xSYD-MEL I have using AA73 next year came with total +++ of USD47.

FWIW, using QF12 increases the +++ to ~USD456.
