Not receiving instant email notification of new posts in subscribed threads

I think I have it figured out.
If someone post's a new reply(reply 1) , I will get a email. (Which I read the reply in the email)
I then delete this email, and if someone else replies ( reply 2) , I won't get one (since I have not visited AFF)

If I DO visit AFF after the 1st notification (reply1), and leave I will get a 2nd email for the 2nd reply , since I visited the site after the 1st reply.

Is this right?

Yes, I think that is correct.
Remember you can always "Watch" a thread. You then get notifications whenever anyone posts on the thread.

Ah ha! Maybe that's the issue. Since we now see the text of the post in the email, I often just read that then delete the email rather than visit the forum. Then I don't get anymore emails alerts from the thread.

(BTW: I know we have problems delivering to some email addresses (such as bigpond and some corporates) due to their policy. But hotmail addresses are usually OK)

Has the bigpond email addresses issue been fixed already or it is a permanent "not fixable" issue?

This is indeed the way most forum software notifications work, including vBulletin and XenForo. Due to the fact that the post itself is now included in the notification, you are probably not visiting the site as often, but the site doe s not know that you have read the post because you did not visit.

If it worked by sending a notification for each new reply, imagine how many notifications yuo would have if you were offline for a week or more!
