Not Really a Trip Report, but Maybe

Oman Air, I like their 787’s, lot’s room and good food. Short transfer in Muscat, so no lounge visit there, on the way back we will have a few hours there.
Got into Frankfurt on time, shortish wait for immigration and bags.

Only issue is that I dropped my jumper somewhere in KL. Hope who ever finds it, gives it a good home. :)

Disappointed with the tv/film offerings, way too much “american” stuff, imo. I have never watched most so called comedies from the states, but of course as usual ymmv.

Had to have the “Max’s” red, was good. :)

I had earlier posted this on the “mistake” thread, fortunately all good when we arrived, everyone is complaining about the heat. It was about an hour from landing to hotel room, can’t complain about that.

Almost, but fortunately found it in time….

We are off to Frankfurt next week, one night then Zagreb the next day. I was sure I had booked accomodation at the airport, for the life of me I couldn’t find it, searched emails and credit card statements, couldn’t find anything relating to a possible booking.
Oh well, I’m getting old, must have thought I did, but hadn’t.
Prices outrageous for the Friday night, supply and demand, I guess. So booked an Accor property nearby with a shuttle, but did make it cancelable.
SWMBO mentioned a Luxury Escape booking for Maryville that we have, also part of a refund, as I had asked her to check her emails as well, normally I cc everything across to her. I thought hmmmm, brain hurts……
I checked their website and indeed there it is. I had booked Frankfurt airport as part of a refund that we had with them.
Sigh, hate getting old, but at least it is sorted, Hopefully wander out of immigration and collect bags and be in our room reasonably quickly. Unquote.

Frankfurt to Zagreb, Lufthansa, this was at our gate, but not for us. :(

My Turkish status got us into a lounge, food and drink offerings imo, were quite good.

Down the stairs to bus, quite a drive the plane, we had been told the flight was chockers, so it was a surprise when I had the only spare seat next to me.

Counted at least 8 747’s on our scenic route to the plane.

Quick flight to Zagreb, picked up car and headed towards Serbia. Overnight in Slavonski Brod, nothing special, but as Bosnia was over the river, the town over there copped a lot during the war.

The river bank has some murals depicting what happened, I think from both WW2 and the nineties.

The town suffered a lot of damage, some that you can still see. The pedestrian area as expected was full of cafes and bars.

So, on to Serbia, as expected on a Sunday afternoon, it took a while to leave the EU and go into Serbia. Bypassed Belgrade and continued onto Nis. Things we wanted to see in Nis are closed on Monday, so we only place we got to see was The Holy Trinity Cathedral. I’m not an overly religious person, but I do like churches.
But first we stayed in a great little hotel called Garni Consul, can’t recommend it enough, nice room, and very nice people.
Some fairly brutalist architecture as well.

One thing that really surprised me was seeing people kissing icons, now that’s a great way to spread diseases!

Off to Sofia, Bulgaria a new country for us both, however Serbia was a new country for her as well, although both of us had been through the former Yugoslavia.

A quick pit stop, not sure what those marks on the asphalt are, couldn’t possibly a fire from an ev?

IMG_2130.jpegIMG_2131.jpeg

The border crossing took about an hour and it was hot!

So, I had intended to go to Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania, but Sixt said, nope, nyet, non and nein…….
Guess we will head up through Romania after here.
But first, downtown to the Nevsky Cathedral. We were told no photos inside…

There was a protest happening as well, I was told they are objecting to the Euro being introduced/

Yes, hundreds of people kissing the slab of marble which is within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem that is said to have been used to prepare the body of Jesus for burial.

If it had been an EV fire, there wouldn't be any bitumen left.

Great photos from that part of the world. I too went through the old Yugoslavia back in the 70s, but haven't been back, but after seeing all the recent photos and trip reports, it's on our list

Very similar marks on a Paris footpath - we were told it was from those big plastic rubbish bins being set on fire. In this case green bins - you can see some on the burnt bitumen. In your case maybe an earlier anti-euro protest ? :)
