It appears times are changing and AA has reduced the AA experience some more. What are other people's thoughts regarding this?

Airline opens first-class loo to economy passengers

There's one seat in first class that American Airlines is opening to economy passengers - the toilet.
Coach passengers can now use the front lavatory on American once again after the airline restricted its use to first-class fliers. The change applies to domestic flights and to international flights leaving the US, said American spokesman John Hotard.

I think its just a case of now people wont be shot for taking a pee in the premium cabin lav in an emergency - not the end of the world for me and not something I expect here

My thought is ... Meh

The number of passengers actually purchasing 1st class tickets domestically is pretty low with a large percentage being those using complimentary upgrades (EXPs) or Upgrade credits . Since most of the passengers are actually on economy class tickets then I don't see an issue

On international flights, the restriction of lavatory use is still in place

I took a renewed interest in my crew from NRT-SYD this morning and actually a couple of nice ones, and one real stunner (i think so anyway).

This news story wont be forgotten in a while.

LOL... the Barbarians at the gate...

UA enforces the "use lavatories only within your ticketed cabin". Indeed, they forbid strictly forbid any mixing between cabins at all, and they are quite serious about it, from what I have seen.

But as NM has said, let's not go there!

I'm very bleh about this "news".

Short haul aircraft (or what I call short haul!) such as the 737 etc have a toilet at the front of the plane, and 1 or 2 toilets at the back.

A passenger in the first row of economy has to traverse 20+ rows backwards for a toilet, when instead they could traverse 4 or 5 rows forward.

Add in trolleys and other pax, and that's just a logistical nightmare a lot of the time.

Who cares about the "sanctity" of the (cough) "FIRST" toilet on those flights. Like has been mentioned before in this thread - most of the pax in the "EXCLUSIVE" cabin are just freeloaders who used their ExPlat card or Upgrade stickers to join.

Now for international flights, or flights where there are toilets at the front of economy, then pax should use the toilets in their class of travel.

By that token anyone on a Business Class Award on QF is a freeloader - they just used their points to get the tickets.... I think that saying someone isnt entitled to the same class of service (i.e. because you didnt pay for a F seat you dont get the real F benefits) simply because they used their status to get the benefits of status is a tad harsh...

Under a rule added following the September 11, 2001, attacks, only first-class passengers could use that section's lavatory on flights en route to the United States. American decided to apply the rule to all flights, Hotard said.
I find that a bit interesting, how does restricting the passengers to their class of toilet enhance security?

perhaps. I do see your point. I should have worded it better.

But in America, First class is a joke for domestic flights. Mmm. Slice of pizza. Maybe a sundae as well. Extra Mmm. Don't forget the peanuts or pretzels! A few people paying anything more than a pretty cheap fare.

I have several AA F sectors coming up in less than 2 weeks (admittedly, I am partially freeloading... YUP's!). I'm still the only pax allocated a seat on all of my flights in the F cabin. I'm waiting for the mad scramble and hoverer's hanging around the boarding gate while the Ex-Plat's get their upgrades...

Compare that to Australia, or the European BA type flights.

Let me know which flights - I am in the US from 17 March (ish)

By reducing numbers of people congregating and also maintains clear views of the access to the coughpit so the FAM can shoot people.

But wouldn't it increase the number of people blocking in aisle waiting to get to the economy toilets? Now they have access to fewer toilets it would increase waiting times.

The economy toilets are at the back of the a/c, well away from the coughpit door.

I'm surprised AA has made this change to be honest. Many flights for extended periods the FAs block the toilets with trolley so they/pilots can visit bathroom/chat.

It's for these reasons that it's a rarity these days for an AA F cabin to have a free seat on lift off, no matter how empty the seat map is showing.

If you are booking in an AA F cabin and selecting a seat; simply take your preferred seat from those available; assume you are always going to have a seat mate.

On the positive side, it does mean you can book a YUP/QUP/KUP at fairly short notice and still be reasonably assured of getting first.
