No Spirits (in J) Masquerading as COVID? [Back from Apr 2022]

Having taking a number of J flights over the weekend I asked about why no spirits and a simple case of not yet as they need to use a lot of stored wine from QFi they need to run down some inventory so are pushing these onto QFd. Dont panic they will be back soon they assured me and that was several different crews with the same response.

So they're serving some half decent QFi J champagne instead of that cheap and very average Grant Burge rubbish?

Rubbish excuse from them as they are still (last week) only serving undrinkable Y mini bottles of wine in bne J lounge. So where is all this good stored wine then... I'd like to help them use it...I can't remember what I was served onboard, very forgettable, although was poured from a normal bottle. (But no problem getting G&Ts and whisky there in the J lounge)

Saw the hand grenades on the J service cart yesterday.
As did I 😳
I wonder how they'd feel
While we're on that note, I came up with an idea to fill a perfume bottle bought at daiso – similar to this one from sephora – with angostura to 'spritz' a grant burge glass if I ever had to resort to drinking one again. It was formerly used to reduce fever ;) and that's the story I'm sticking to :p

A side note story from my recent trip is that the OOL QP staff would not make me a Bloody Mary as "it's a coughtail" – their reasoning – and couldn't add a slice of lemon to my G&T. The CBR J lounge was able to make me a Virgin Mary (bar not yet open) and poured water over the story about the Bloody Mary reasoning when I relayed it to them. Bit of a mixed bag all round ;)

I didn't have a chance to ask for the same on this mornings National Jet service CBR-SYD, but I shall try my lucky on a mainline service this afternoon to OOL and report back.

I am not sure if you're speaking tongue in cheek or not, but that seems daft! :p

Definitely tongue in cheek.

Pax in J next to me asked for a rum yesterday and was told that they were operating with a "limited bar". Bit sad really, he didn't want food, wine, coffee or water. Just a straight rum and they couldn't provide. He cost them nothing except the seat space, which given J wasn't full had limited value.

Due to Covid, we don't have much competition now....

They‘ve still got to differentiate their J product to justify the increases cost from Y.

QF domestic J is very expensive compared to Y. AA for example is much more reasonable - on some of the short routes you can get F(J) for about $100 extra.

Pre-covid I’d say the food on QF is slightly better but almost everything else (for narrowbodies) is better on AA. They serve you a spirit as your pre departure beverage - you can’t even get juice on QF anymore.

I think we can all forgive AA for continuing the covid restrictions but I’m not sure about QF.

If QF keep slashing the service they better start slashing the price too.

The simple reality is that QF can get away with it because people continue to pay Qantas.
Stop flying them, stop paying for biz class and things will change real fast.

'one more trip......... I'm using points........virgin is xx_xx'..... excuses mean nothing and won't change a thing.
The ONLY way airlines listen is either when a politician or hotshot CEO complains, or when their weekly meetings of dashboard metrics start declining.

It's a tough thing to hear but if you don't like something about Qantas.
STOP GIVING THEM MONEY! (this is not aimed at you -it's a generalised comment!)

Funny how they put so much pressure on the states to reopen their borders but now all the borders have reopened they are still using COVID19 as an excuse for lower service standards.
Flying PER-BNE return in J over the weekend so I will report back on that experience.
Of course I already know it will be the lower service standard of a B737 instead of an A330.

And I presume out of mouthwash as well. At Bunning's metho is about $5 litre.

That was my point though. You might not have choice of airline but you’ll soon stop selling J seats if they aren’t worth the extra - especially if most pax are going to be leisure travellers with biz travel on hold.

I believe AJ and Qantas have now achieved their goal of running a low-cost carrier. Perfect opening for Rex or even Virgin to plug a market gap.......chop chop.
AJ = lcc. It's his background, his DNA, it's why the qfa board promoted him to "reposition" the JQ/QFA balance more towards JQ. Coincidentally that also made him a suitable CEO for going into a crisis, and that was good, but it therefore makes him unsuitable CEO coming out...the rebuilding. The QF board now has to determine the strategic direction.
