I'm probably the last person here to know this, but just in case ....
I went onto the QF web site today looking to book a flight LAX-LAS-LAX on a QF code share on AA metal, but the site wouldn't let me do it. I knew that codeshares existed for this sector, so I called Qantas, who politely told me that such codeshares were only available as part of an international QF ticket, as QF doesn't have X freedom rights within the US.
D'oh!
Yes, that's obvious isn't it? To be fair to myself, I always book international tickets through a TA, but its been a case of 'learn something every day'.
But the good news was that Qantas told me that I could get those sectors included in my existing 'Circle Pacific' ticket, using QF codeshare, for a change fee of abt US$120, less than the fares I saw on the AA booking site.
So a good outcome and worth the call to Qantas
