No. of Eligible Sectors & SCs on VA codeshare SQ+MI connecting flights

Would a VA codeshare flight booked MEL-KUL on VA website, earn 2 eligible VA/DJ Velocity sectors, or only 1 eligible VA sector?.
The VA website booking engine shows two VA codeshared flights connecting in SIN, (1. SQ metal MEL-SIN; connecting with 2. MI metal, SIN-KUL - both with different VA Flight numbers)

The Velocity mileage calculator now only permits separate calculation of the sectors involved:
(a) MEL- SIN (v/v)
(b) SIN - KUL (v/v)
- presumably, after the MH partnership ended with DJ in April.

So, related question would be about earning separate SCs and miles, on the MI metal VA codeshare connection, SIN KUL.

Having recently flown SYD-AUH-BRU on EY metal but a VA flight number I can confirm that each leg is counted as an individual sector. So MEL-SIN-KUL will be two eligible sectors (this is the rule for long haul - as opposed to domestic and short haul where things work differently). In relation to MI, my understanding is they only earn status/points when booked as a VA ticket (as you have outlined). Book through SQ or directly with MI then no points on the MI leg.

That said, you need to keep an eye on Velocity. They originally did not credit me with sectors or the appropriate points on the EY metal legs (they applied the EY formula rather than the VA formula which should have applied since I purchased the ticket from them). Their current systems seem unable to deal with this issue - but they quickly corrected when I pointed out the error.

Thanks iambents for sharing your experience with VA booked sectors flown on EY aircraft, and caution to keep an eye on Velocity. I need to rack up some more VA/DJ eligible sectors to retain Plat, and each eligible sector flown will help, cheers, PJ

Wowha. Just been talking with Velocity CSO who stated that a VA Codeshare, even if booked through DJ and flown on SQ metal (e.g to SIN as I was intending) would not be an eligible sector for my DJ assessment!
The CSO referred me to the terms and conditions. Apologized that MAYBE this wasn't clear on the website..... and in the T&Cs..... and summarized that an eligible DJ sector could only be earned if flown on DJ or VA metal (I.e. the flight has to be operated by DJ or VA, not merely marketed, by DJ and VA). Am I totally screwed up in reading the T&Cs for eligible sectors?

I think whoever you spoke to was mistaken. As I understand it its VA/DJ Operated or Marketed. That's the whole point of the agreement.

As far as I can see, the T&Cs around eligible sectors refer only to the marketing carrier.

The Velocity CSO was wrong!

If you book and purchase the flight through VA and it's ticketed with a VA flight number then it will count as an eligible sector. I've just been through the same exercise with a VA flight from LAX to JFK that was operated by DL. I ended up getting the miles (including Platinum bonus), status credits and eligible sector.

Resurrecting this thread with a semi-related question...

If I was to travel on an MI flight that DOES have a VA number (e.g. SIN-KUL) and booked on the SQ site, would that be eligible for earn? I seem to read in the T&Cs that any MI flight with a VA number earns points, although this would not have been booked on the VA site and would be out of SIN. What on earth qualifies to earn SCs and points and what doesn't and how does one determine what MI flights are eligible?! (I'm looking to be based in SIN in the near future, so knowledge would be handy!)

Note: I know that all SQ flights are eligible (dependent on fare bracket) - so that's no issue...more a matter of the MI flights.

SilkAir operated flights are not eligible for Points or Status Credits accrual.

I've always read this as meaning - the only time you will earn points or status on an SilkAir operated flight is if you book it via Virgin (ie something as part of an Australian flight like the SIN-KUL leg of a SYD-SIN-KUL itinerary; or on DRW-SIN for example).

But you haven't purchased a flight 'marketed by Virgin Australia' - you purchased it as marketed by Singapore Airlines. To be marketed by Virgin Australia you will have need to have had the ticket issued by VA as part of a Virgin Australia PNR.

It means your booking must be on the VA flight number.
