Hi. I am a first time poster with a worrying question. I have just picked up that expedia have ticketed our flights with no middle names. I know tickets are meant to match passport exactly. Flyertalk forum has many examples of this not being a problem, but does anybody here have any experience with this for Qantas/Emirates? Thanks

Airlines dont require them, in fact they dont need a first name, just an initial going by IATA guidelines.

As long as the names that are there are correct you won't have any problems. I have two middle names and they are never on any tickets of mine and I've never had an issue.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. My anxiety levels have started dropping already :)

I had an experience a few years ago where the shortened first name I am usually known by was used, but my passport has the full first name. Had to do some fancy talking as cultural differences meant that they did not readily understand that Jim=James, or Ken=Kenneth in everyday life down under. But have never needed to have my middle name on a PNR or equivalent.

It's been mentioned countless times here but middle names are not required on the pnr even on USA tickets , however for USA tickets you will be required to submit middle names to the airline as part of secureflight program. these details can be entered separately.

add middle names complicates things and your frequent flyer miles may not credit properly if a middle name is entered when it is not part of your frequent flyer program profile.

Never had a problem domestically using a shortened name but was in strife internationally once. Ticket was in the name of Jeff and my passport was Jeffrey

Plan on traveling with a friend later in the year. Mrs GPH has the same first name and surname as our friend. That will be interesting.

If SWMBOs middle names would have to go on the ticket it would be a very long name element in the PNR

I made a booking through expedia earlier in the year and my middle name was in my profile and it came across ok. I think it's even on my boarding pas.

My frequent flyer profile doesn't have my middle name, so I book tickets without it despite it's in my passport. Never had an issue. *touch wood*. If anything, the check-in agent likes to write in my middle name onto the boarding pass with a pen after it's printed.
