No issues with entry in Melb for myself (plat) & husband & stepson (both red) when stepson flying home to Sunshine Coast. I was flying to Syd later that evening (12 hrs later) but don't believe that was the cincher. VA cost = 3 coffees, VA earn = will chase partner plat this year.

But you were flying later that day and hence entitled to enter the lounge regardless.

No, checked his BP & (I'm pretty sure just) looked at my card

In which case, if its a VA flight he was catching, you would be allowed access. Access is granted with presentation of Platinum card and "a valid boarding pass for travel on the day"

My only experience with access while not travelling personally (since the end of ATA), was at BNE when I was seeing my then 15YO son off for his first solo flight. The lounge angel permitted access without even a hint of further deliberation....but then again, the BNE angels are pretty good with their hospitality.

If we were not permitted access (for whatever reason), then so be it.......I'd just go and buy a coffee. Why the angst when they enact their T&Cs? If they let you in....good on them. If they don't, it's a pity ..... but it's really not the end of the world!

This thread has made it clear I can now complain about not getting something I wasn't entitled to.

I wouldn't think of just asking to go in one lounge when I'm on another airline. Go wander the shops and BUY a coffee.

And was welcomed in with my wife, no problems with me not flying.....

Its little things like this that make the better half happy for me to spend extra on VA, if it it means maintaining status.....

That's interesting. What did you say or do at the lounge entry?

Mrspooky recently flew on VA and I knew I wasn't supposed to be able to gain her access if I wasn't flying, so I didn't even try to. Maybe next time I should, but I wouldn't quite know how to approach it, other than walking up, showing my card and her BP, and saying that I wasn't flying, but she was. Is that what you did?

When are you going? I am flying out of OOL last Friday of June and first Friday of July around 6:00pm.

Hey John, thanks for the offer! Heading out on the last day of July, but will have wife and daughter in tow.

Maybe ill see you around OOL soon!

Bit of a random one but work has booked myself and 2 colleagues on a QF flight and we are all bronze :(

However I'm WP with VA. If we go to the VA BNE lounge and find a random in the terminal who is travelling VA, what are the chances of me showing my WP card and the random's BP and guesting in all 3 pax?

DOM or INT? I assume DOM (no VA Int. lounge) but if Int ... No hope.

If Dom, VA Plat in the DOM lounge gives you 3 guests. I'd suggest your chances are good as BNE do usually honour the unwritten benefit that some on here argue doesn't exist!!.

Slightly OT, but from time-to-time I'll come across a BP left in a seat pocket. If that pax is SG or WP with VA, it should be a simple matter of a PS and below flyer to scan the pass in the lounge for arrivals access.

And just this week I found a BP left in a kiosk. I guess it's unlikely to happen but if I didn't have access and came across a BP that did, I'd be straight into that lounge. Surely someone has done it.
