And with all of the people complaining about their points being wiped after no activity for 18 months now people are complaining that the free flight vouchers they received after the Oct 2011 grounding are expiring.

For goodness sake they've had two years to book a flight! And now they're whinging about them not being extended.

Qantas customers left stranded when the fleet was grounded two years ago have only one day left to get on a flight if they want to use the vouchers the airline gave them in compensation.
...

But when Mr Batch tried to use his voucher on Thursday to book a trip to his friend's wedding in Perth early next year, he was told that he needed to fly by Friday, or else lose the gift.

"As a PR exercise it's a bit of a fail," he said. "If it's meant to be a mea culpa, why would you put an expiry date on it?"

The Qantas fleet was grounded as a result of union action. Because his flight was cancelled, Mr Batch had to drive to Canberra for a business meeting he could not afford to miss. He was pleasantly surprised when he was offered the free flight but he now feels betrayed by the airline.

ROFL! I noticed the expiry date a couple of months ago and used the voucher quick smart!

Not reading the fine print is somehow QF's fault - sounds more like someone chucking a tantrum and running to the media because QF wouldn't budge.

Whether having an expiry on these vouchers is petty is beside the point. You just can't win when ignorance is involved...

The cynic in me says the media knew when the vouchers were expiring and had lined up stories to print immediately as they did expire.

how some people manage to function day to day is beyond me  if he's married..i hope he read the fine print!! :D

Have to side with QF on this, two years is a long time to use a free flight voucher and then be surprised that it expires this week.

If QF were forced to do something about this, think of everyone that issues gift cards that would be forced to contact the holder each time it comes to the expiry.

I don't think the conditions on these vouchers are very clear at all. I had a voucher that said the voucher had to be used within 12 months. When I went to use it, I was told the flight booked with the voucher also had to be taken within 12 months. The way i had read the conditions is that I could use the voucher within 12 months to book a flight outside the 12 months, which seemed to me to be the plain English reading of the condition.

Three is confusion here as Qantas have different rules for "domestic" and "international".

The international are more in line with industry norms (12+12) while domestic need to be consumed (travelled) within 12 months of initial ticketing.

I suspect some CSA's get the differences mixed up.

Not reading the fine print is somehow QF's fault....
Not putting any blame here but in my experience (and I could be wrong) there is way too much important information hidden in the fine print. It is a sneaky practice.
