I'm flying SYD-HKG on QF127 today and connecting on BA28 to LHR. I checked in online for the first QF leg and was automatically allocated seats on the BA leg (no option to change seat). I assumed I would be able to change seats once online checkin opened for BA28.

BA28 checkin is now open, but when I click through to "online checkin" on the BA site for my booking, I'm told that the flight is QF-operated and am redirected to the QF Manage my Bookings site! On the QF site, when clicking through to the seat selection, I'm told "Your seat preference for a flight(s) operated by another airline on your booking has been skipped. Select your seat preference for this flight by visiting the website link provided at Manage Your Booking".

Has anyone faced this issue? I'm confused as the BA flight is not a codeshare, so I wouldn't have thought it was "operated" by QF - I assumed I'd have access through BA, as prior to online check in I was able to see the paid seat selection options on BA's site.

Is there anything I can do besides enquire when I physically arrive at the airport?? I'm worried about seat selection on my return flights, as my first two legs are BA and last is QF?

Apologies, I haven't done a full search for existing threads yet.

Many thanks in advance! Susan

You need the BA PNR.At this stage probably too late to do that.
On the Weekend we flew BA ABZ-LHR-NRT but on an AA award ticket.Could not select seats through AA.I went on BA.com and emailed customer relations for their PNR.It did take~36 hours for a reply.Once you have the BA PNR you can select seats online and do online checkin.
So for future reference for your return flights.

In the OPs case, the BA PNR should be available via checkmytrip.com

If you do the BA checkin first on their website then when you get to the airport QF will reprint your BA boarding pass when they check your bags through to LHR.

You can always ask then if there are any other seats available as they can display the seat map for the BA flight in your booking they they can't view blocked seats or the loads for that flight.

It's quite possible that the seat allocated to you via QF would've been what you'd got had you done OLCI with BA anyway.

You can always check with BA on arrival in HKG. Their A380 has a 2x4x2 config in whY on the upper deck so it's worth asking if there's any seats up there.
