NM, you nominated 14A & 14K on a BA 744. I was curious as to the reason...is this seat similar to 64K where it has no surround around the foot stool as it is against the wall? And entry and exit without stepping over the person beside?
I have alsways been on the upper deck so I can't say I have notcied this before.

Indeed. 14AK are by a wall so nice n easy for getting in and out. Definately my choice when in Club World

Cheers Dave, thought so. Does it have the curved surround?? If it does not, it might be like 64K where there is just that little bit more length!!

Yep ...

They are good seats, offering good privacy. Only real (but very minor) issue is you need to undo your seat belt to get at the 'magazine' rack.

Thank you NM, you are the master of seats. This should be a sticky. Kiwi Flyer also is a master of the air. Thanks for the seat info, as a J flyer, this all helps to make the pain not so pain-full for me. Please all, add lots of info on OW airlines.

Gentlemen, gentlemen....your wishes are but my humble command. It is now added to post #4 (all by itself) in the Ultimate Qantas Guide. That way I won't have to change it all the time.

Truly put together by a master. I wish I'd sat in all those seats...

Couple of things I would like to say (as a traveller stuck down the back)

1. Absolutely fantastic post, great work, thanks a million etc etc...:D

2. I am bloody jealous/envious for all those other seats !!!!

I am travelling on my next trip with "she who must be obeyed" and our creation (13 old son), so I have been looking at those first 3 seats in Y on the Qantas 747's (row 34 and 26 on another) But I didnt think about the 3 seats behind the crew seats......I am now! Thanks for turning on the light.

My question/s is which variant usually flies the:

Melb/SYD - HKG - LHR route?
JFK - LAX - SYD route?

And will my TA be able to tell with some certainty that she has the right variant shown?

Generally:

3 Class MEL/SYD-SIN/HKG/BKK-LHR normally use the "Kangaroo Route" Configuration
3 Class MEL/SYD-LAX use the "Pacific" configuration.

The Kangaroo configuration has more WHY and Less J than the Pacific one. (14F/50J/315Y against 14F/64J/265Y)

They are easy to tell apart as the Pacific configuration has no rows 37 to 41 in WHY.

  • BNE-LAX-BNE
  • MEL-AKL-LAX-AKL-MEL
  • SYD-SIN-FRA-SIN-SYD (QF5/QF6)
  • SYD-JNB-SYD (QF63/QF64 FRI only)
  • SYD-MEL-SYD (QF74/QF73)
Cheers

It seems that a lot of people prefer sitting in an aisle seat when flying economy? Is there any reason for this? More space or easy access?

I actually prefer a window seat if I fly economy as I can rest against the cabin wall.

For me it's about not being hemmed in. If it's a block of more than 2 seats I definitely do not want the middle! A window seat is not bad per se (certainly when there's a good view to be had) but I don't like having to clamber over people to get in and out (prefer to be clambered over). An aisle allows me to get in and out at will without impediment and also the 'luxury' of space on one side of me (passing people and trolleys notwithstanding).

Query on the 747-400s 64J (Pacific)
Economy: 35H, 34D, 34G, 46H, 46C, 47D, 47G (note 34 and 47 are bassinet position)

Why are rows 34/35 preferred to say 46C/H and 58C/H and even the B/G seats - surely the exit rows with the additional legroom (although slightly reduced width due to inseat monitors) are better than a bulkhead row.

Does 35H have additional legroom (behind crew seats) or is 34D actually a better choice.

Is 35K a good seat or is the legroom the same as any other economy seat and the curtain for the crew rest takes up additional space.

Not everyone can pre allocate an exit row, as an SG until late '05 I certainly could not. Also, some do not like exit rows as people congregate in the area in front of you - when it's dark people often stand on your feet while you are trying to sleep. (Although, og's tip about wearing white socks does seem to work well.)

35H is the best non exit seat due to the seat in front being crew rest and is not often reclined. 34D/G has the possibility of a bub in the bassinet position. 34C is less popular as two people may need to get past you to access the aisle, whereas the D/G seats generally have only the one PAX to deal with.

It's a window seat where, like 35H with crew rest, it is not often reclined. IME, the crew rest in front of 35K is used more than that forward of 35H. The curtain gives some sense of privacy but some find it claustrophobic.

I pre-booked seat 23A on a A333. I was thinking of getting 23B following NM's suggestion, however I though I stick with my window seat preference. Is there anything to be wary about this seat?

If you are tall, the window bulkhead seats do not offer a lot of legroom.

I have flown in 23J a few times and prefer the aisle seat over the window seat. The aisle seat at least allows you to extend your legs into the galley area, although they are then prone to being hit by trolleys.
