Was tempted to go chilled read for omakase/kappo tonight... wussed out and went with fizz.

This felt a bit pedestrian, maybe it was the pinot noir stems being used?

Was balanced, fine beads, bruised apples on the nose. Easy going, but not special.

2019. I have a few bottles in the cellar from different purchases. I just grabbed one at random. Turned out to actually be the youngest of them.

I agree with you. It's by far one of the best sub-$100 champagnes. With 40% reserve wine it's complexity is unrivalled. My other favouriate sub-$100 is Jacquesson.

That's disappointing. I've had it before and thought it was pretty good. Could it have been an average bottle. Was it just a bit dull?

My father brought this out for a family dinner with only he and I drinking it. so we felt that we had to do it justice and finish the bottle.

Seems he knows the winemaker and got them for $40/bottle so opted for the dozen. Retail appears to be $100



Slammed for the rest of the night, thankfully the wife was driving home. Very heavy and full of flavour, long finish and a taste I couldn’t describe. In all honesty, I’d be cellaring it for at least 5-10 years before starting drinking it again.

Have taken a bottle to deliver to my uncle in Sydney tomorrow. Will he last until 2038 like the drinking window? Doubt it…neither will my father, so I’ll inherit some bottles.

Drinking a glass (or three) from our Alsace stash in the hotel room after long drive through Switzerland



Blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris from small but quality domaine based in Andlau.

Hugel gave us one of the most impressive experiences in Alsace, generously offering huge range for tasting including some very expensive aged whites. Our strategy was to buy half bottles to drink during the trip and full size to take home.

We had this little number in our Innsbruck hotel room after another long drive. Outstanding Riesling!



Later we headed to wine bar in town to get some education on Austrian wines



I knew a bit about Austrian Rieslings and other whites but was more impressed by their reds, particularly some of the interesting blends they make.

Gager Tycoon (2017) is a good example. Made of Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat. Great wine!

We had our fair share of beer in Munich during Oktoberfest. With one more day in town after it finished we found this great wine bar short walking distance from Marienplatz.

Not only they had a good Coravin list by the glass but all wines served in Zalto glassware!







Apart from the Coravin list there is a huge list by the bottle (including some Aussie) and also more simple wines by the glass. There were few more opened bottles that night from an event they hosted earlier which we could have by the glass.

One of the owners happened to be there and appreciated our enthusiasm saying most guests don’t really notice the glassware. We let the him choose wines for us, starting with couple of Mosel Rieslings (one of them on the list) moving to local PNs and finish with some French reds.

The food menu is small but of quality, made by ex Michelin star restaurants chefs. We had an amazing night, highly recommend this place when visiting Munich.

Thats the most impressive glass list I’ve seen!! If there’s anything remotely close in Aus, I’d love to hear!

Quite extraordinary Pinot from California, Santa Maria Valley. Had the most forrest floor cow dung nose I’ve experienced for many years. Palate smooth, somewhat raspberry with long finish. Clone 115 I believe. Very interesting.

My thoughts exactly @B3nno. With Coravin tech it’s easy to offer premium wines by the glass yet it’s hard to find bars in AUS that have decent by the glass list (and proper glassware).

This was 5 star and really surprised me
Silky, smooth with some raspberry/blueberry flavours
