Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I came across this wine when I was searching for “big Cabernet”,and this winery are known for “big wine, small winemaker”. Quite pricy but I bought a few of their cabs and Shiraz.

This is clean ,red fruit and a bit peppery on the nose, herbs and red fruit , not a bad wine also noticeable alcohol.3E689D28-3171-4D11-AA2A-F7A15B50541B.jpeg

I’ve not heard of this winery before.

they do have a cellar door in greenock creek i think, you can google it. i never heard of it until 2012 but they have been around for a while.

Ballycroft has a small cellar door just off the highway. If I'm not mistaken his cabernet comes from Langhorne creek and is very old school. He also does a great take on durif, Shiraz, mataro and often does a VP. Well worth a look if you're looking for something different in the Barossa.

I was activating a drinks fridge inside my wine cellar yesterday and I found a second Penfolds 707 that I hadn’t realized was there.
That is a great wine for special occasions and yes it is better than Grange in my opinion. I just wish it was still around $100 to $200 but Treasury Wine changed all the good stuff pricing.

The new release is coming so why not open an aged one , something to remind me how good hunter red gets when it is a good vintage.

Sweet red fruits but not over ripe, the earthy note and that under layer oak just makes up what I like in a hunter red, this still looks young under screwcap but doesn’t stop me from drinking it ,it’s so good right now.

One of the flagship wine from rosemount century’s ago, this was the last release as well. When the hunter valley cellar door was closing down, this and the balmoral are on clearance rate, $15 and $20 per bottle, I went nuts with it dozens of each still in the dark hole.

This is a Shiraz cab blend ,about 80/20 , good red fruit and a little herb on the nose ,red brick colour in the rim ,it looks aged but the young fruit still there, taste like if it’s the wine still in sleep mode, didn’t finish it on the first night. As expected the wine opened up on the second day during lunch, more complex with no harsh mouthfull of tannins. $60 rrp. Use to be one of my favourite cellar doors.

Tried a Mumm champagne yesterday to try to figure out why their sales are zooming. It may be a price thing as it was ok but not a big winner.
