Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Penfolds 707 is back so I may go starthere/ dans and Woolies wish cards from RACWA to get the price below $270.
My cardiologist should be pleased.

Have made up a 6 pack with two 707,407 and 389 for the free delivery as I don't like going to booze shops. I will need more Woolies discounted Wish cards shortly.

Is grange cork only or do they bottle some with screw caps?

Last I heard it was still cork only. I think it had something to do with the fact that so many bottles are destined for overseas markets where corks are still associated with "premium" and anything else just doesn't cut it (including those fancy glass ones floating around)

Thanks thechung, I had a feeling that was the case but thought I would ask the question.

Yep all cork. And they managed to break the cork on the bottle we tasted from. I noticed the 707 is also cork but the rest are screw cap.

I came across this quote the other day and think it's perfect for this thread. I think we have a few members who are following it to the letter, enjoy :)

"Bottles of wine aren't like paintings. At some point you have to consume them. The object in life is to die with no bottles of wine in your cellar. To drink your last bottle of wine and go to sleep that night and not wake up."

Jay McInerney

Its a great thought, but unfortunately with my forward planning, I don't think I'll be able to achieve this, and will depart this world leaving a wine legacy of some 45-50 dozen. Still it should make for a good wake. I'm trying to cut back, but have been back home 2 weeks and have increased the inventory by another 2 doz.

BTW for the Chardy afficionados Graysonline have a mystery deal of 2012 Margaret River 6 pack for $119.94. JH rates it at 94 points, 13.5% alc. and its 50% off the RRP of $40. JH has pronounced the winery as his Winery of the Year, so I think its Brookland Valley Estate (2009), rather than Larry Cherubino (2011).

Seems like value?

Over the years I've been lucky enough to enjoy a few wines with a neighbour. These people are elderly .... their cellar is looking worse for wear these days - they always talk about the depleted look/stock. It's an extremely mighty effort to make a 4,000+ cellar look depleted!

They have worked very hard over the years investing time and money getting their cellar the way they wanted .... time has rolled on and they're well and truly in the enjoyment phase - they have left the best for last! Amazing wines in their cellar and I get a little excited every time I get a shout to come over.

By 'elderly' I expect you mean in their 90s?

Would they object to a pic or two for us mortals on AFF?;)

At our restaurant in NYC last night they had the 08 Grange for $1500 USD. I chose another wine
