Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

I stocked up on Cullens Diana M reds from Margaret River this past week. It is a great drop but they seem to get rarer due to usage.

Vanya Cullen is one of Australia's great winemakers IMHO. She makes some fantastic wines.

It's good to be home and not working.
Over the weekend it was a Tahbilk 2000 shiraz.
Tonight a Lindemans 1988 Bin 7603 when it was still called a Hunter River Burgundy.
both drinking very well.

At the risk of sounding like a "W" (from WP), I have a couple of bottles of these wines at home.

I have only tasted the By Farr so far, but it was quite a nice drop :)

Had another reason to celebrate tonight.Down 15Kg in the last 5 months.
So a 1994 Lindemans St.George cab sav.Despite being 20 years old still a fair bit of tannin and could last another few years.
Now to think of another reason to celebrate on Sunday.Definitely a good idea to convalesce in style.

We had a Pouilly Fuisse from Costco US at $17.99 a bottle and we concluded it was worth the money. Very nice white wine from somewhere in France.
Australian wines are pretty reasonably priced in California so it reminds me to never want to own a vineyard any time this century.
Diana's are waiting for my return to Perth but it is business first.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

At the weekend we had a number of good wines.

The most interesting was the 2005 Chain of Ponds "The Cachet" blend (Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Merlot). Having not tried this before I was a little sceptical, but Halliday thought it was reasonable. I asked room service to find a decanter for me to borrow in the afternoon, and we had a little taste and decanted the bottle just before going out for dinner. Upon our return the wine was ready to drink and went down quite nicely.

In hindsight, it could probably have had a little more bottle age, but with a solid ~2+ hours of decanting it was "just right".

Given the price I paid ($0), I was quite happy with this one.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Before Christmas we had a 1998 Metala (bought in 1999) which I must admit I was worried about as my storage isn't what it should be but geez it was nice. I was very pleasantly suprised. After Christmas we had a 2008 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz - absolutely devine.

That's in Burgundy. Pouilly Fuisse is a Chardonnay wine, not to be confused with Pouilly Fume which is a Sauvignon Blanc wine from the upper Loire Valley around Sancerre (great place to visit if you haven't been there).

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Thanks JohnM our empty bottle had gone to garbology. We only had glasses that held half a bottle each so we have fixed that now. The taste was good and almost great.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Opened a bottle of Chateau Tahbilk Shiraz 2005 last night and it is really smooth. Good tannin and just a hint of spice.

So used to screw tops I had to search for a corkscrew
