Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

botchee, that's because you have it saved on your C:, you need to show the www link instead (like ste667 dis above)...

Good find if The Warlock is correct on usual pricing.

Some of the other sites are suggesting its usually priced between $38 and $45.

Wish I had some more space, can't really take another 6 Cabernets but this is a very good wine in my quaffer price range. Might have to just boom and be done with it.

I Boomed....

2009 Ashton Hills Sparling Shiraz seemed like a reasonable way to kick off Valentine's Evening;)

Sedimental, what did you think? I bought 4 last week (through MyCellars). Have had previous vintages and think it is a fantastic wine (04 and 06 but alas all gone now). Not cheap at just under $50/bottle mind you.

Edit - I note only one glass on Valentines????

baiden, my first AH Sparkling. Have enjoyed their still shiraz over numerous vintages and also Wendouree Shiraz. Easy answer, if you enjoy this style, great wine. Good bead, not sweet and not too heady. Really luscious and easy to drink, less meaty than a Rockford Black that I also enjoy. A Rocky is $68 if memory serves me correctly, the AH was $215/6 recent cellar door promo (thx for the heads up redbigot) IIRC.

Rest assured I wasn't getting the whole bottle to myself! MrsSed is an avid sparkling shiraz fan!

Bugger, I missed that one ! Great price as I paid $200 for four. Will need to be more watchful in the future.

Tasting group theme last night was rose. Not quite sure this is the right thread. Some aweful wines, many average wines and a few ok wines. Nothing really good or great.

Apart from the name of this one :)

I reckon Rose can be a tough one. So many different styles, its hard to find one that pleases all taste buds.

It seems to be called a red wine on Rockford's site but I don't drink red wine so it's a Rose. :p

Other wine merchant sites refer to it as Rockford Alicante Bouchet Rose. Good enuf.

Most grapes are white flesh. Alicante has red flesh. Rose generally gets the colour from some skin contact.

There are a few "problems" I see with rose. Firstly, it is such a generic thing. Its like lumping all white wine into one category. Then there is the problem that there is no real definition. It can be pretty much from any red grape and a bazillion different styles. Finally, rose (especially in Australia) is an after-thought. Ie, excess grapes are used to make it.

While I like the Rockford Alicante, nothing about it makes it a great wine. Rose just seems to lack complexity and length. Sure, there is a place for it and don't get me wrong, I like it in the right situation. I suppose I just don't find it a serious wine that holds much interest (as a wine nerd).

Also, this was the first tasting where I thought a few of the wines were actually faulty with questionable wine making techniques. All wines were served blind. Ironically we landed up with two bottles of the 2016 Driftwood, but under screw cap. One was truly awful the other average. How two bottles could be so different is beyond me.

Yeah its a red, not a Rose. I'd trust the winemaker over random merchants.
