can get into town very cheaply.

Kef please let us know, from TPE to get to town is very easy, they even have the subway at the airport. There is even buses directly from TPE airport to Taichung and the like and they depart every 15-30 mins or so !

for my next self funded long haul trip I will seriously give CI a go, not to mention their sub 4k business class to JFK / Gatwick, with 1-2-1 cirrus type seats which is the same as CX / AA ,

even their premium economy get my attention, not to mention the price, but they are shell designed with lots of legroom means no body can recline on you for ALL PEY seats, unlike the CX / QF premium ones, charging a premium, all passengers will recline full all the way and intrude in your personal space 90% of the time.

I flew CX PEY before and the pax in front reclined during the whole flight, except takeoff and landing, because the recline is significant, I cannot even view my screen properly !

surprising all airasia X economy seats have limited recline, therefore your space in front is good for the whole flight ! but their safety and value is another story ...

I put a friend of mine on CI one way SYD-LGW in PEY. Cost $1000 (returning on an SQ award). They loved CI! They had the bulkhead which helped with sleeping (I suggested they put their cabin bag in front but they said the bulkhead provided good support ). Food, service, all good. No lounge access but they did have priority pass, which they said the offering in TPE was disappointing (and the showers didn't 'feel' clean). But otherwise they said they'd fly it again without hesitation for the price (at the time it was $1000 one way and $1600 or something for the return? But I think that may have gone up now and you'd need to check TPE layovers to see if it was still VFM)

I have booked SYD-TPE-JFK return early next month. I looked at their safety record and they appear to have changed both pilot hiring policy and maintenance area. No major incident since 2002 and hiring western civilian pilots rather the ex PRC airforce pilots.

Republic of China = Taiwan
PRC = People's Republic of China = mainland China.

Whether the ROC and PRC are essentially one and the same depends on whom you are talking to.
