New versus Old SC earn (QF)

I know there are old threads on this but would require digging...

Last year (April) when we booked SYD-AKL-BNE in U (MASA), the earn was 90SC for each leg. Having flown the flights this weekend, the earn is now 80sc per leg (thanks to U being discount business rather than business). As they were booked before the June 30 change, should we have got the old earn, or are we stuck with the "enhanced" earn?

From the Simpler(tm) & Fairer(tm) FAQ:

The changes are effective for travel on and from 1 July 2014. This means if you book on/after 29 March 2014, for travel on or after 1 July 2014 you will earn Qantas Points and Status credits in line with these new Airline Earning Tables

So if you booked in April you would earn at the new rate.

I didn't receive 90 SCs for SYD-AKL even back when things really were simpler and fairer.

They will post the missing SC's / points in a day or so under the title of "ADJUSTED EARN-BOOKING"

We might have booked March, I really dont remember, though I imagine unlikely for a March flight. If thats what we earn then so be it I guess. Lucky I overshot my requalification then.

Well given that the cut off was March 29th, whether you booked in March or April is kind of important, don't you think?

Indeed. Looks like we missed the cut-off by two weeks. Bummer! That'll teach me to pay attention.

Correct ... trans Tasman (between AKL and MEL/SYD/BNE) on QF in business had been 80 SC's since at least May 2005.

There has been no business class band/zone between that date nearly 10 years ago (25th) ... maybe even before ... and "Simpler and Fairer" that earned 90 SC.

The band's for business were 40, 60, 80, 100 ... all 4 times the earn for "discount economy" on the same distance zones.

The trick is that business was/is 4x the cheap Y fare[SUP]*+[/SUP]. Cheap Y earned at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 (etc or whatever). 4x 20= 80, 4x25=100.


* Not sure if this holds for simpler and fairer
+ this is just a ratio it won't tell you how much any given route earns.

If you tick the FLEX box, and with a FLEXJ booking, QF will give you 90 SC Aust east coast to NZ vv.

Which is the new earn not the old earn.

Happy for this thread to die. I get that I was wrong and I've got no idea where I pulled 90 from, all I know is that it's been stuck in my head for the last year. I've requalled Gold so it's much of a muchness really.
