And we were just surmising this problem....DJ are actually advertising it   ......;) :)
I thought it was the check in line, hence he used the "priority check in" after he lined up in the check in line.

Are there different versions, or has someone realised that calling a flight to Paris wasn't the best idea?

The version I just saw had "flight 45 to Los Angeles is now boarding", whereas the other versions I've seen mentioned the flight to Paris...

How attentive some AFFers are!

BTW Mal, I need a larger pic of your avatar......they stil look like garden pebbles to me

Have to agree with the other posts about the confusing continuity issues with the nonlinear narrative nature of the ad. Giving an overall impression that Virgin is in such a hurry to rush around changing, that it doesn’t have a clue about what it is doing. End result = amateurish.

Consider these screen grabs.

1. Ad starts, with check-in clearly open & in operation behind the customer.

2. Customer then walks past the open & available check-in counter area (which looks more like a bar than any airline check-in).

3. He pushes through a queue (and at this point we viewers think that he might be about to board his flight).

4. But no... it’s a priority check-in queue (where he isn’t actually checked in by anyone).

5. But this queue ends up leading him around the front of the other queuing passengers (who can't be queuing for check-in or they would be at the other counter) and into a lounge.

One odd advert.

Hmm - personally not a fan of the ad - seems to put the W in WP...

What I didn't check was whether the screen at the boarding gate has also been updated or not...

Have a look at
Giant's Causeway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Don't know where my original photo of mine is (suspect another laptop that I have stored away). If you are in Northern Ireland, it's a good place to visit.

Posting of "Proirity Queus", I noticed in MEL T3 on Friday and again yesterday there is actually "Priority Entry" for checking into the lounge.

There are two queues, both labelled Priority - these appear to be the only queues.

They have this in Brisbane as well, but I would feel like a wanker using it assuming that most people entering the lounge are there due to status? So I just join onto the main line (which has never been more than 1 or 2 people anyway).

I can never work out which side of the sign is "Priority" and which is pleb side. Usually there is no line so I just walk up like I own the place!

Same. With only one rope set up. It looks to me more like a devider. I think the priority lane is on the left.

I don't see the point in it either, if anything more Golds, Platinums, Bus and PE pax will be using the lounge than paid up members.

It is. If you look closely there is a small plaque on the left hand side counter.
There is that plaque on the LH side of the counter.

However there are:

  • The Plaque is not obvious on Friday when there are several people already in each lane.
  • Only the two lanes separated by movable tapes and poles.
  • The sign on top of the pole at the lane entry between the lanes has three sides, dunno what's on the side facing the counter, but both left and right side as you approach indicate "Priority entry".
I'm thinking to have lounge access privileges you are entitled to priority entry in any case.

So, I'm thinking it's a precursor to a planned change - maybe VP's will have exclusive use of one lane going forward.

Not quite - The "priority lounge entry" lanes in MEL and BNE are for Business, PE, Golds, and now Plats only. They specifically exclude paid lounge members. It aligns with the Premium lounge entry in Sydney as well which has the same rules. Paid Lounge members have to go through normal security in Sydney.

It's almost like the same way that Qantas now hardly gives paid QP members any sort of priority anymore either.

Mind you, if there are people waiting to enter the lounge I queue up, because it would be a bit awkward to waltz past, particularly if they were confused about which side was the priority entry!

I caught the ad tonight while watching TV (rare event in itself ), I think it will make more sense after a bottle of wine!

So there are no lanes for paid members? What do they do - waltz past?

As I posted, there are only two lanes in MEL and both are sign-posted as "priority".

My understanding is that only one side (the left) is priority but agree it is very unclear. Paid members are meant to go to the non priority queue (the right side). There is the sign on the desk but obviously once a few people are waiting it's impossible to see it. In Brisbane it's clearer (or was when I was there) as they had two purple tapes to mark out a priority lane, and the sign on the pole was on the opposite side of the lane to where the non-priority queue is.

In any case I think it's a bit pointless as there are probably less paid members than golds/plats these days, as someone mentioned before.

There is sometimes a queue as the entrance desk processes check ins, and other stuff as well if the service desk is unattended.

Feedback for VA - maybe they need check in kiosks or have a separate queue for check ins vs non check ins (or even just at peak times have someone just checking membership cards / BPs at the entrance so people who are already checked in don't have to line up). I'm not sure why they still scan everyone into the lounge still.

Going further with that idea, maybe the Priority Lane can be turned into an express lane? For people that have their Boarding Pass, or FF card in their hand, ready to go, they can use said lane. If you have a problem, need a seating change, haven't checked in ect act, you can use the regular lane.

That way, you don't get stuck behind somebody who hasn't checked in or needs to move to an earlier flight. (I know it's usually only 30 seconds, but when you are standing behind them, it can feel like a small lifetime... :/)

Thoughts?
