JB007 how did you go with your upgrades?

I'm trying to get my TA who I booked the tickets through to upgrade for me but they are unresponsive!!

I hate TA's, the only reason I used one for this is because the wife had a voucher for flight centre that we had to use.

When I log into my trip>itinerary>change flights i see the four flights I have for my USA trip. When i check the boxes next to the flights and select first/business as the class, it doesnt allow me to select first/business on the same flights i have, but it does allow me select them on different flight numbers e.g. NYC to LAS instead of the 5.55, which is the one i have booked, I can change my flight to the 4.15 in business class c.

Is there anyway I can get class P, I or any other YUP fares without my travel agent??

Edit: It doesnt even let me do the above on my booking, I mistakingly was in my brother's booking when I tried this. He bought his tickets directly from Delta. However I still cant select P or I class on his when I select change flights...

Sounds like we may have the same travel agent...

I also hate them, mainly because they never seem to have the knowledge that I need them to have and I can generally get better information from my own sources. We only used it because we had intended to setup a Gift Registry but that also turned out to be part of incorrect information that they gave us.

I am still waiting on an answer from 3 weeks ago about changing flights due to a Delta change which means we now have a 1hr 40min connection at LAX before our JFK flight. As the next flight isn't till 3 hours later and gets us into JFK at 9:00pm, I don't want to risk missing our scheduled flight. We are trying to get changed to the VA flight from Brisbane which gets in earlier and gives more breathing space. The flight does have a DL number so it shouldn't be a problem but we have paid for Economy Comfort and our TA doesn't seem to know how to handle it.

I haven't tried the upgrade yet, when I click on Change Seats it only tells me to contact the Guest Reservation Centre. I think this is because I have some Virgin Australia flights as part of the trip. I have checked my tickets with more detail now and we have 4 flights in K class, 1 in U and 4 in Q class. So with cityflyers advice above, hopefully it will still allow me to get P class on a couple of flights.

I am thinking of skipping the TA all together and just calling the local Delta number and seeing what they have to say. It couldn't be any worse than what I get at the moment. Will let you know how I go.

They're a pain aren't they!! I was dealing with a decent guy at this TA who has now left and I'm stuck dealing with a bunch of idiots!!

It seems like you're in a bit of a pickle, I hope you can get it sorted out!

You must have read my mind, I just got off the phone with delta, they told me only the travel agent can make changes. I explained my situation and the fact they are not responding to my contact, she then told me she will have a look at how much it costs to make the changes for me. Came back with a figure which is pretty much equal to the difference between what I paid, the current YUP price for all my tickets and one $150 change fee...

it'll come up to $1,000 qualify for the velocity double sc promotion...

if so we will hit gold status, the $1,000 would give us 420 status credits (if double sc applies), which is under $2.50/sc

Give it a shot with delta, they were pretty helpful and i get the feeling if i pushed a little bit I would be able to make the change through them...

Chain shops like Fright Centre give good TAs a bad name ... if you find a good TA, they're worth their weight in gold.

I'm yet to find one!!

Last year on our honeymoon I used a small boutique one but again I wasn't impressed.

I ended up doing more work than she did...

so far my experiences with them have been poor and I haven't seen them do anything or get any deals that weren't available to the general public

Finally got an email from my TA, gave me the biggest load of BS you could ever imagine.

Didn't even get me a price on what I wanted. I'm being as patient as possible, just gave her a step by step explanation of what I was talking about. Lets see what happens now, last chance!!

JB any luck on your issues?

Dare I ask what it was that you got told? If it was anything like I was first told it seems to be that they don't want our money.

I didn't get a chance to speaking with my TA on the weekend and she doesn't work Mondays so I thought I would give Delta a call.

The person I spoke to wasn't able to help at all because I had booked with a TA even after pushing it a little. She did however say that the flights I want to upfare to P class are available but I need to speak to my travel agent to get the fare difference and to get them to do it.

When I queried about changing the SYD > LAX flight she said that it wasn't a problem as the MCT in T5 is 90mins and we have 100mins. She also pointed out that "if Delta scheduling has put you there, then you will be fine and won't miss your flight". I kinda wish I was recording that. She did say if there were any issues then Delta will re-accommodate us on another flight but I really would like to avoid that. Mentally I am preparing for a 3+ hour layover at LAX which won't be too bad in the SkyClub as we can have a shower at least.

I'll go see my TA tomorrow and see what they can come up with and let you know.

My experience with corportate TAs concerning anything more than standard ticketing is equally depressing. Even sending them fare rules and routing sends them into a tizz.

But why should we be surprised. Look at the Delta website and it gives you a lot of flexibility as to the class of ticket you want to book. Compare that to VA or QF where the choice is very limited into predefined broad categories of ticket classes.

So we are bookingflights with Delta. When earning SC's, will they be considered DiscountEconomy, full fare economy or what? Delta don't seem to offer the multitude of economy options that Virgindo.

Compare the booking class of your fare (which the Delta website makes quite clear - ie "Economy (M)" is an M class fare) with the tables here:

Status Earn Fare Class| Velocity Frequent Flyer
Status Credit Earn Fare Classes

Discount Economy:
Delta Air Lines: L, U, T, H, Q, K

Full Fare Economy:
Delta Air Lines: Y, B, M

Business/First:
Delta Air Lines: P, F, A, C, D, J, I, S

If you're so inclined, you can use the multi city booking function on the DL website to specify the minimum fare class - so, for example, you could specify a minimum of M fares which means you'll earn full economy status credits.

Keep an eye out for first/business fare buckets such as A class which often are cheaper than Y/B/M but is first class.
