I have just flown on SQ218 Mel - Sin (777 300ER) and had my first experience with the new SIA BC seat. Simply outstanding.
I am a regular Asian traveller out of Melbourne and till now was a fan of the Q seat, but the new SIA one is so far ahead it is not comparable.
Amazing width, I am a big guy and I was swimming in the seat
Perfectly flat sleeping position, and able to strech my 6'4" frame out (diagonally aross the seat).
Lots of little storage options in the seat
Little intelligent touches like the laptop power plug next to the TV making it so much more accessible than all others I have used. (often I have had to get on my knees to plug the laptop into the Q plug )
A new AVOD system that worked flawlesly (you can tell I have flown too many Q legs without working AVOD)
Frankly I believe this will have a major impact on business travellers between Aus and Asia, certainly I will go out of my way to book on flights that have it from now on.
Admitedly the old SIA seats were total cough compared to the Q seats but now they have leapt ahead.

Dave,

Just out of interest the cost difference ?
I know SQ were bumping the prices up so the problem i am sure most will have is maybe now the cost difference. (of course it all depends on load etc)

not sure on the cost diff as it was booked by AMEX on a corp plan. I assumed all the different SIA Mel - Sin legs were simlarly priced.

MEL-SIN on the 77W would've incurred a Q surcharge for the new products, as opposed to the flights operated by the 744 and 773 with older products. I don't really remember what the surcharge is now, but it depends on the type of ticket one is travelling on.

Apparently not, there should or was planned to be a different price, and the 77W and A380 do not allow some awards either. I have no idea why just an SQ thing.

Only unrestricted awards are available for redemption of flights in First and Business Class on the B777-300ER
, ie no saver awards at all for J & F.

And too bad if you're using another FFP as *A awards book into the same buckets as Krisflyer saver awards.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A good reason why *A is my secondary program and OW my first choice.
Don;t get me wrong i like the product on SQ but some of the other airliness are not so nice and the FF programs are not so suited to my flying activities.

I echo the comments of dsomrox, I caught SQ218 last month and had my first flight on the new 777-300ER. All in all a good experience, great seat and the TV screen is incredible for an airplane (although wasted on SQ218). I had a good sleep, in fact I slept so well that this would the first time I haven't had a single bite of food on a medium or long haul flight (usually I would wake up in time for at least a continental breakfast). My only complaint was that the flight wasn't long enough to enjoy the experience!! And as for the surcharge, not sure what it was, but for me it was irrelevant in grand scheme of things as I was travelling on to PVG - and the SQ fare was about $3K less than QF and CX.
