No, the airlines can file their statused bonus luggage information with APTCO (The Airline Tariff Publishing Company) to be auto applied to the e-ticket - but they appear not to want to do this.
According to ATPCO, 250 airlines have done so ...
Yes, Qantas are listed as having filed baggage policies with APTCO.

However, have Qantas included variances to the allowances for their elites?

...
When your airline files its policies in ATPCO’s Baggage Allowance and Charges, you can

  • Identify the types of bags that your airline accepts at no charge or for a fee
  • Detail your free baggage rules, as well as any charges for excess, overweight, or oversized bags
  • Vary your allowance and charges based on the passenger’s journey information, such as passenger or fare type, frequent flyer status, ticket data, or travel period
  • Create custom baggage rules for your corporate travelers
  • Define your baggage allowance and charges with a piece and/or weight system
  • Set baggage charges based on a percentage of a fare, the number of additional pieces, or the amount of excess weight (by the kilogram or pound) ...

If you could at least be guaranteed the same baggage allowance for your return trip as the outbound trip that would be a start, but this system doesn't even seem to guarantee that apparently. I'm going to see if I can find out what allowances QF have actually filed with ATPCO.

A very helpful lady from ATPCO has just pointed me in the direction of this website - iflybags.com - it looks like it might be very useful! It is powered by ATPCO baggage data. If I do my trip as planned then I'm looking at over $A1000.00 in baggage fees, but if I bring the LHR - CAI leg forward a day so I just have a transfer there instead of a stopover then I just pay the QF fees which for a WP is a $50 heavy fee each on bags 2 & 3 in each direction which is $200 all up for the entire trip.

I guess the obvious question is now - is there a QF flight from Asia to London that arrives in the late afternoon or evening so as I can have a stopover that isn't a stopover before catching the 18:15 departure for the once a day BA LHR - CAI flight the next day?

The problem I see with the ATPCO filing of status related baggage is what happens if I get my ticket issued as a WP in my current year, don't make the threshold and fall back in status before my actual trip (not sure if QF have soft landing but let's assume not and I fall back to NB or PS). My ticket will say I have a certain allowance but would check in honour it?

WHo knows - and I suspect even if they had, there may be variations between which interline partners you were talking about. At the end, I think it largley comes down to the commercial interline agreements as to whether elite benefits such as these would be recognised.

Look your booking up on one of these sites:

  1. www.checkmytrip.com
  2. LAN.com Detalle de su ticket
  3. https://eitr.amadeusasia.com/index.aspx

What do each say for allowance on each segment?

I checked all those websites for my flights to GLA with QF and BA. It was less than helpful

1. Say baggage information is not available - on both the QF and BA PNR
2. Says there is no such booking
3. Seems to say 20kg but directs me to the standard policy section for each airline as it is not a trip to the US.

Anyway, I'll go nowhere near the minimum limit. Just wanted to say I found the situation frustrating and can appreciate the annoyance of anyone who will go near the baggage limit.
