First time post!

I am currently a QFF Plat with a renewal date of Nov 30 2013. I have re-qual already for Plat but quite a way away from Plat 1.

I am leaving for a month of travelling around the world on Dec 4th 2013. As a result I won't yet have my new Plat card. I am travelling premium economy for this trip (personal instead of work) and am concerned that I might have issues getting lounge access etc.

In particular I have 1 leg of the flight on American Eagle (AA) in economy (no premium) and the flight is carry on only - unless OW Emerald, then you get two checked bags. I don't want to run into issues on this leg with my luggage (or my wife's luggage).

Other carriers are AA mainline, BA and QF.

I called QF to ask if they could issue the card early as in the past when I have received a new card late in the year due to a status change it has been dated to the following year's renewal date. However, because they are now cash linked MasterCard does not allow them to re-issue the card until Dec 3rd (to allow for SC to clear through in case of last minute flights).

I know now I won't get WP1 and will remain platinum.

Any ideas of what I can do to ensure I don't run into any issues?

Thanks for your help!

In most instances your status is on your bp and the "old" card with a printout of your current status (from your qff page) should suffice in most lounges.

FWIW I had JFK-BOS and BOS-LAX-BNE following status upgrade 2 days prior to the JFK-BOS leg (clicked over on LAX-JFK) and the system recognised me as Gold.

I'd expect it not a problem and you should be able to explain or worst case ask them to contact QF if they try to deny entry.

My year end date is end Sept, and I received my new WP + Qantas cash card by at least 1 week before the end of Sept. i would say based on that, you would be likely to receive tou card a week or so before 30 Nov. Youshould have it by 1 Dec, especially if you have no flights booked at the end of Nov.

I first qualified as WPin May 2011 on a SIN-BNE flight. The next day I flew to LAX and on to SAC with AA. I showed up onboth systems as SG, as my quakifying SCs had not posted. I flew home 5 days later as WP, and that status was acknowledged wothout a card.

I would anticipate more potential issues with lounge access being recognised than with luggage, at least as far as AA is concerned.

You will not have any issues with this, as the baggage allowance applies to sapphires and rubies too.

Welcome aboard AJ2012, perhaps call again and let them know you're travelling overseas from Dec 04? There have been reports that BA has been known to refuse entry without a valid card so you definitely want to have it with you. I suggest you have your booking PNR with you so you can demonstrate the need for an early issue.

Please let us know how you go with your request.

As per Katie's post, I have normally received my new card around 6 weeks before the old one expires.

My end month is October and I received my new 2014 cash card 2-3 weeks ago (having received the original 2013 expiry cash card only a few weeks earlier.)

You should expect your renewal card to arrive in the mail within a fortnight based on these anecdotes.
